As a Roblox developer, it is currently too confusing to find the “Access Type” setting to set an additional setting on which group of people can play a game.
What is “Access Type” setting?
The Access Type setting is a basic setting that can be configured both on Studio and the Creator Dashboard for games, and is used to control which group of users can play the specific game you’re editing the settings for.
As you can see from this above screenshot, the setting allows for users to set games to Friends Only
for player-owned experiences, and Group Members Only
for group-owned experiences).
What’s the issue then?
Most are not aware (or assumed that Roblox has removed the feature, since they couldn’t find the feature themselves), that they are able to set such settings by going to Audience > Access Settings, in order to change the “Access Type” setting:
This feature has been on Roblox for at least 9 years, yet most developers are not aware of this nifty feature and work around the issue by making a Script that automatically kicks Players who aren’t in the game’s group out of the server. While it works, there’s just no reason not to use this inbuilt feature to do just exactly that (but more professional, if I may do say so myself).
However, the fact that Studio groups this feature along with the “Privacy” of the game into a single page in the Game Settings
page shows just how the “Access Type” setting is pretty much like setting the privacy of your game, so I don’t see why the website was built the same:
In conclusion, if this issue was addressed, it would improve general development experience as they it is clear they are able to implement a “sub-level” of privacy for their games without having to implement additional unnecessary scripts.
