Planet Terrain Generation

Some video of my new terrain generation algorithm generating 1000x1000 stud sized planets, in real time. The latest version is V4 named “Double Stack” due to the way it generates the different voxels. Planet terrain is based on game coordinate location of the spot terrain is to be generated, so it will vary wildly even stud-to-stud as demonstrated. The resolution of the generator is 8x8 studs and can be down set down to 4x4 (hardcoded ROBLOX limit), but 8x8 leaves pleasant landscapes while not making players wait years for 20 planets to generate.
I was exploring adding caves, but I have put that on hold due to school and wanting to release an alpha test of the game this is being implemented in. Version 5 will add either caves, height and moisture map based terrain material choice, or least likely both.

I would morso consider them islands. However each one looks great.

They become planets once the atmosphere renders, but that’s client side for some special (and exciting) reasons. The literal islands on the planet can be modified based on seed.
