Hi, I’m Xezlo, and I’ve been building realistic maps for a few weeks now.
I’ve recently started working on a D-Day map, which will be used for a game which is coming soon. The game is supposed to be as realistic as possible.
I need very harsh criticism (please) in order to improve the map as much as I can.
Here’s a link to the map. D-Day - Roblox
P.S. The map isn’t finished yet!
Thanks for reading
Feedback I got so far:
Fog
-The fog could look a little bit more, as there is dust flying around because of the war and things that break.
Beach
-The Shore/Beach could have a little more detail such as a dark material on the water side that comes more onto the land like it looks ships have been there.
-Beach is a little too steep.
Bunkers
-The Bunkers look very plain, maybe you should make one bunker half broken and the other one has a radar on top.
Bridge
-Once I looked at the bridge I felt a very strange feeling, it just doesn’t fit in place. It doesn’t fit the style, as I could imagine, many thanks would have rode over that. You could add ride marks.
Sand Bag Walls
-The Sand Bag Walls look VERY plain. They are the same mesh duplicated over and over. Maybe make a few Sand Bags leak some sand.
Environment
-In the environment you could maybe add some broken trees and black trees as they were blown up.
Cover
-Allies team need to have better cover in order to be able to fight the Axis team.
Yes I’m DeRobloxMeneer.
I’ve played it and looked at it very very good and found much detail but some things to point out.

Hello @Xezlo, before I start I’d like to say this map was very well done and I’m fairly interested already even though war games aren’t usually my thing. I’m also not the only one, two more people joined the game while I was playing, for only a few minutes, so good job there. There are a few things I’d like to point out, so:
What are these?
Maybe I’m just being ridiculous or don’t know enough, but I don’t really understand these:
Are these cannons or something? Sunken ships? I think these might just be in game lore or something but if so there are too many… I don’t understand these either.
2. Lack of Color
Here this building looks unfinished. I’m sure gray was your choice, but it makes it look like just an ordinary block you just started on and haven’t textured yet. The building itself is well made and practical but doesn’t look finished yet. My suggestion would be to either add some form of columns or decoration, a noticeably darker gray, or pick a texture for the building as a whole.
There is also a lack of color concerning the other surroundings. I think adding sparse desert plants such as succulents would make this feel complete and thought out.
Walking issues
The terrain here is really bumpy, and a bit of a hassle to walk on, and I don’t understand why. Are these supposed to be the result of bombs or grenades? If so, maybe some broken shrapnel and the like would convey that better, and a darker shade for the deepest part, which can be achieved with Terrain.
Lighting
If you are supposed to be in charge of the lighting, I think it could use a change or two, to make the game as a whole more colorful without taking away the desert/war theme.
Honestly I would say this is very well done but not quite finished.
These are the same as the above just for boats I believe.
@Xezlo, but to make it more realistic I would add a lot more of these. And try to imagen if these would actually work, place them realistically and smart.
The terrain is bumpy because this is a war map, and the other team has made holes to make it harder for the other team to advance. The bridge’s part is unfinished. Thank you very much for your feedback.
Hiya, I just tried out the map and its decent for the most part but I’ve found some things that bug me:
The bunkers seem to lack detail and are very basic with just a few cylinders stacked onto each other. The [entrance](https://gyazo.com/4201a2d9073cf25ff0965f4e0d3c25a3) of the bunker is linear and boring, try making the walls a little thinner or enlarging the entire thing and maybe adding a few rooms for storage and what not, the walls also seem to have some overlapping parts. I'd suggest that you go for a blockier approach and look at some reference, here's some decent ones that I've found:
Many of your smaller [assets](https://gyazo.com/7bc7c3bc8a48fda3de014ace4141d806) are copy and pasted in a bland fashion, there's little to no variation. Try to vary the size, orientation and maybe even make a few different versions of each asset to add more variety. The [boat thingies](https://gyazo.com/37fae2d693e0492dcfa76a90366f7934) are the wrong material and feel kinda clunky.
Your [cliff faces](https://gyazo.com/c7a0d056757f17b0a08c415f8345183e) are also bland and lack variety, it goes in a straight line from left to right with the only variation in slope at the paths to the high ground. Maybe try modelling a bay beach like [this](https://static.planetminecraft.com/files/resource_media/screenshot/1923/overview-1559856158.png)? Also, you should add a lot more height difference to the map, for example, instead of a 90 degree angle upwards make a slope that varies from near vertical to flat to near vertical again.
A lot of the above could be done with Blender relatively quick and easy. For example, you could import a heightmap of a bay into blender then export it to roblox to use with the smooth terrain.
I love the map and the originality of it, and all the feedback given that I’ve read is pretty valid and makes a good point although I also saw that the placement of the anti vehicle barricades and the boat ones both seem to be placed / spaced very similar or the same distance from each other, I think that if you spaced them different distances for each one it would be more natural and realistic, unless they were meant to be done in that manner.
I am not too well knowledge in the D-Day War styled maps and therefore tried to give a suggestion that seemed somewhat reasonably realistic, if its incorrect, I’m sorry!
This is a fantastic idea, and I can see what you were going for within this style. However, there were a few things that stood out to me that I figured I would suggest.
TERRAIN
You should work with the terrain a bit more within the hill & trenches so it doesn’t look like a long square border, this means smoothing it, adding other terrain textures for realism, and working around some of the architecture so it’s not “glitching” inside.
LIGHTING
I think the lighting could use some work, I see that you had the right idea with it however there is some things that could make it look more “real” and fit that theme. I would suggest changing the following skybox to a grey sky along with adjusting & playing with some of your lighting settings to hopefully get the perfect thing!
BRIDGE
The bridge really stood out within the environment because of the detail into it, I think that the bridge railing should be connected to each-other so all of it is not so “separated” and “apart” from each other. This would be a good factor to make the bridge look more realistic.
CONCLUSION
I appreciate you for sharing this! It is a great map with the right intentions, you should take a lot of these suggestions to light to hopefully enhance your map with the full realistic experience!
I appreciate your feedback, but I’ve stopped working on this map 11 months ago! Thank you for taking time out of your day to write such a long feedback though!
The bridge and bunkers look very, VERY plain, and could, if not definitely add more detail. I suggest meshing if you know how to use it, as it would definitely help your build.
