I recently created a 1:1 replica of Manhattan in Roblox with Open Street Map data. I plan on studying Google Maps to recreate the roads, traffic signals, signs, etc.
Before I begin constructing more of the city in bulk, I would like some feedback on the scaling of my game, especially the scaling of the lanes of the roads, poles/lamps, traffic lights/pedestrian signals, signs, and buildings.
I would also like some feedback on how I could possibly fix the scaling of these models. I don’t really have any knowledge about architecture and did everything by eye/sight.
yk you could import the google maps 3d model into blender - like the entire world - and you could like use it as a rough draft and model over it and make it better while still keeping it proportionate. Ex. in the 3d google maps import, you can model the buildings inside of the existing buildings allowing you to keep the correct sizing and all. sort of like modelling from an image
I just took a look at it and it’s pretty cool. The thing is, I don’t know if this is actually viable to develop solo. I don’t have much experience on modelling, but I do know that this is going to take a lot of effort and time to do it solo. Possibly reconsider doing this, think about the steps you would have to take - texturing, details, etc. But then again you have already modelled the buildings rough shape. I think you should try importing the 3d Google Maps world. Maybe import the open street map into blender, model the buildings off of it and for the size, scale it with the 3d map.
