I wanted to keep the aesthetic of a ROBLOX character in this game, but I also wanted leaner proportions. It’s a very minor change, but what do you think? Anything that could be improved?
His neck. He needs a neck. If you’re going to go for semi-realism then the neck is very important I think.
It’ll make this like chest armor and hats look sooooooo much better.
I’m not going to add any parts unless absolutely necessary. I don’t know if it would benefit enough from a neck, and realism isn’t the goal…
If you haven’t changed the animations, the animations could use some improving. Namely:
- Don’t rotate the torso on the yaw axis while walking
- Don’t rotate/move the hands/feet from their initial position
- If you rotate the torso on the pitch axis, make sure the faces on the upper and lower torso that make an obtuse angle are lined up exactly where the two faces connect (i.e. like this and this)
The entire reason hardly anyone made custom characters on ROBLOX is because of how ugly they are when the blocky joints rotate, and I don’t think the staff got the message when they were developing the placeholder animations for the characters. Your character will look a lot better if you avoid breaking those three suggestions.
Yeah, we’re going to redo all of the animations because we need strafing and turning animations. We may or may not use some inverse kinematics. Either way, yeah, we’ll keep these things in mind.
Ah. Well that’s just my opinion. The neck one tiny part that I think differentiates ‘roblox’ from ‘cool humanoid looking thing’
I’d totally give him a head. Also the arms thickness relative to the legs is very important. Bodybuilders (even ones who train legs as well) have large arms and small legs. Fat people (sorry) tend to have bigger legs and thinner arms. Might be useful down the road if you want to make your characters look stronger.
hi i’m a body builder:
I’m thinking of allowing some customization in terms of proportions. It depends on how it looks with the animations, since changing proportions can mess with the rig.
In what world are those small legs?!
Look at his left leg. It’s bulging from the side.
Look at his right leg. You can’t even see the bulge because you’re look at it head on. Now do the same with his arms. It’s a complete reversal of relative proportions.
Feet should stick out a bit in front.
Other than that it looks nice
I suppose so. Either way, I’m not really in it for the realism!
Hey, I think you’re on to something…
He skipped leg and arm day and mainly focused on torso (core?) day.
Let’s see you make a better idle animation too.
Hah, are you kidding? I’m making someone else do the animations. I’m hopeless.
He’s also got the fire emblem awakening feet thing going on.
Who would release a game looking like that?!
It’d be awesome if feet were like this by default.
I doubt we’ll be able to break from the R6’s proportions, but this new rig provides a lot of opportunities for packages in the future!
