Poor performance with Future is Bright lighting

I’m looking to implement FiB lighting into my game. However, when I run FiB in both Studio and in games, my performance tanks. I usually have my graphics around 8-10, but FiB games will often force me down to <5.

I don’t exactly understand fully how Roblox’s renderer works, as lighting superior to FiB in games like Kerbal Space Program, Total War: Napoleon, Ravenfield, and Mount and Blade runs fairly well on my computer. It could also have to do with my computer’s age and the card’s potential incompatibility with a number of modern optimizations. Someone with a bit more technical knowledge on FiB, please explain to me the standard performance impact on the “average user”.

My computer:

i7 3720QM
GT 650M
8GB DDR3 1300MHz RAM

If you’re on MacOS or iMac it really perfomances no small pixel shadows
I can’t answer it completely good because i don’t know about PC variants

Future lighting is commonly laggy for a lot of people and the Roblox engine isn’t well optimized overall. :joy:

I experience no difference.

My Computer:
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
Processor 3.3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
Graphics AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4 GB
8 GB of Memory slots installed
Serial Number probably isn’t important.

Real cringe footage of me playing game with future lighting max graphics in 5k (but youtube only let it upload in 4k) with no lag (I get nervous when recording so I sound weird and nervous aaaaaaaa)

How do you not lag with a mac? :grimacing:

I think this is due to Roblox issues. Not our specs.

I have the same specs and I have no lag at max graphics (laptop) but I have Gt 720m or something I think. I am not laggy on the future technology. Maybe stop the background running apps?
Am not sure if the stop background running apps will work or I have written something wrong

My specs are:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940 MX

CPU: Intel Core i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz

RAM: 16 GM

And I lag tremendously with future on.

Nice! I really do think this is roblox’s issues.

Yeah I believe it is. I guess we have to wait a couple of years until the engineers figure something out.

Yup! I really do think we have to wait a couple of years. XD

I am running specs that should be running Roblox Player and Roblox Studio with ease. It’s an AM3+ build give or take.

On this screenshot here, I get a lot of lag due to the particle effects. When the particles are deleted I get max performance, but when there are particles here, Studio and Player take a massive dump. If I change the lighting, the particles are fine and there’s no lag

As seen here, my hardware isn’t suffering at all. This is really looking like Studio not being able to support itself(?) which doesn’t make any sense to me, and I have no real idea as to how I can solve this issue

If you’re using “MacOS”
because of Graphics API it uses “Metal API” which renders similarly to OpenGL since it’s optimized for MacOS only

performance might be slower on Roblox

id recommend Windows 10 and buy a graphics card that has Vulkan installed
so that it doesn’t overheat your PC or lag anymore

I’m using Windows 10. Thanks for the recommendation!

it is, i’m using an i5-13600k with an rx6800 and i get around 45-100 fps with very noticable stuttering
usually i get around 800 fps butter smooth
also bump lol
