As a Roblox developer, it’s currently impossible to view the contents of .rbxm file visually in Roblox studio before importing/inserting it to your place/game.
I miss this feature very much as a developer since these files also meant for trading assets quickly with others on Roblox or storing it on your computer.
In my opinion, currently, inserting .rbxm files is bad.
The current looks like this:
- You can convert your model, and compress it into a file & store it on your computer.
When you need that model, you can simply insert the .rbxm file. - Later you can insert it by clicking the “Insert from file…” option, this will “insert” the file instantly to your place.
Why is this bad?
It’s a file, your computer detects as a normal file which means:
- You can rename the file to ANYTHING*.
- You cannot view the file visually, except if you insert it in studio.
- There is no prompt, when inserting, that you would like to Insert it now or Preview the file.
During team create sometimes there isn’t any coordination, and other developers can publish the game at any time, including when you mistakenly insert something inappropriate that another user gave you.
Solution
The solution for this would be a feature built inside the engine (or else a plugin made by a developer on Roblox).
- You insert the .rbxm file into your game
- A window, with a notification, pops up: You can either choose: View the file; Insert it now or Cancel (cancels the process)
(I’m not good at GFX nor explaining it, sorry)
- If you click “View the file”, this notification window will close, and a new window will open where you can view that .rbxm file visually inside Roblox studio before inserting it to your place (Works like the ViewPortFrame).
- If you click “Insert it now”, it will insert the .rbxm file instantly into your game. Without any other notification.
- If you click “Cancel” obviously it will cancel the progress and closes that notification window.
With this, the user can choose which option he/she wants to execute. Currently, the entire process in “insert from file…” is forced by Roblox studio, the user cannot choose more options when inserting a .rbxm file into his/her place/game, it just inserts the file instantly into your place/game…
If this issue is addressed, it would improve my and other’s development experience because:
- The developer can simply choose which option he/she wants to choose upon inserting a .rbxm file into his/her game.
- Also should benefit, in trading, and avoid getting tricked or avoiding getting terminated for inserting and accidentally publishing an inappropriate object made by an anonymous person or by other creators from the web (such as from youtube, discord, etc. Or other websites.)
My motivation for this feature
My account got terminated in July, this year, unfairly, I got scammed uncommonly on via Discord.
I was trading models with an anonymous person on discord, however, in exchange, I got a different model, inside this .rbxm file I got three highly NSFW models inserted into my game.
I was in team create at the time with another developer, and due to a series of unfortunate mistakes, the inappropriate models ended up getting published with my game and moderation ended up seeing something they shouldn’t have.
I don’t know, how many of you or your friends got affected/scammed this way, but I know this is an uncommon way to scam someone on Discord and I hope you feel in the same way as I felt when it happened to me.
Thinking I’m lying?
I’m not lying, this method of scamming already existed even before my account got terminated. My online friend of mine, said, his friend even got terminated in this way, and he couldn’t do anything against his termination because of course, the moderators found him guilty for violating a rule in their community rules.
I bet you’re feeling in the same way as I did when my appeal got declined. Yes, I know, their appeal system is “unfair”, run by “bots” and such thing, I was sad when they declined my appeal I said for myself:
“This is it, there is no way getting my account back.”
I swear, if there is any other way of getting my account back, I would instantly do it.
I know, this is just a game, but not when you’re so connected to the account, made a lot of friends, spent your time with others with joy, spent a lot of effort into the account and also being a veteran on Roblox.
I was utterly sad when I opened a folder full of screenshots of that account, I made a screenshot every day from 2016 till the journey’s end. It gave me both sadness and joy at the same time, I’m proud of this community.
My plan for 2019-2020 for that account was to start developing a simulator and start earning R$ (sadly it didn’t happen because of the loss of the account). Yes, I made R$ with that account too, by selling assets or by helping others.
Yes, people trusted me well, I haven’t scammed any of them, I did my job fairly.
I potentially lost £1200+ value in my profile (a lot of items, money, and achievements) and even I lost my reputation on Roblox after the termination.
Please, upon reading this,
do not start scamming others this way, instead of scamming, you should inform your friend or the Roblox society you’re in about this method of scamming,
unlike me,
because I got terminated in this way and if I could travel back in the time, without any regret, I would instantly ignore that person who scammed me.
Also, this is a shame, I couldn’t get my account back, because their appeal system deemed my account guilty for “publishing a game that has contents that violate the community’s rules”.
Although I was innocent behind this case, the moderators or the bots can look at this case in every angle and saying “You’re guilty, we cannot lift your ban on your account” but to be honest,
I would never, make a game that on purpose contains assets that violate rules on Roblox.
I do miss the account so much, if you’ve read this post without skipping, I wish you to avoid scams like this, don’t end up like me, I regret inserting that .rbxm file into my game.
Hope you understand and feel the way I felt when I got scammed this way & there is no going back to get my account in my hands again, I simply lost the faith of getting my account back when my appeal got declined.
Never trust, what’s the .rbxm file’s name, regarding the file name, inside the file, it can be anything.
Stay safe and vigilant:
