Problem with map building idea

  • I Want to build a map.
  • Well, I Do not have an idea for the map, I Mean, You as a builder, When I tell you to build a large castle, What do you think of, How should I make a plan for the build I am making?

The building I am making is a prison in the theme of a castle.

I’m not really a builder, but I assume you could search up on google images of like a castle image as a reference. Or you can ask chatgpt for some ideas, it’s not the best for coding but it can certainly be helpful in something like this.

Start with the floor plan. make a blueprint! It’s best to figure out where the rooms will go (and their purpose) before just setting up random walls.

Greybox it! Greyboxing is when you take plain parts and just make large boxes where you want things to go. Think about where you want buildings positioned or landmarks to be. Once you’re content with that, start making basic walls. You never have to stick with one specific layout, so if you want to move something, move it!

Sometimes, graph paper (or just normal paper) can help you design layouts, especially when its a build with lots of different rooms and areas. Consider what the player will do, and design a map that fits it (for example, a shooter having hiding spots and vantage points and a horror game having long halls and creepy bits).

Dont be afraid to try stuff out, and take advantage of references too!

As you can see, I did what you told me to do, I am thankful.

I hate how I know about these methods but continue to not use them. :sob:
