Procedurally Generated Island

Hey everyone! I wanted to share an exciting project I’ve been working on over the past week, focusing on terrain generation. It all started when I came across a fascinating video by a developer who worked on Minecraft. If you’re interested, you can check out the video here. Watching it gave me a great understanding of procedural terrain generation and how all the pieces fit together, i would greatly recommend this video to anyone interested.

Feeling inspired, I decided to try my hand at creating my own terrain generation system. I’ve made some progress, and I’m eager to hear your thoughts! While there are still a few things I need to iron out, like fixing some node generation issues and adding more tree diversity, I’m excited about the direction it’s headed. Let me know what you’d like to see next!

Here are some bird’s-eye views of the islands I’ve generated with the scripts:

I’ve also captured some snapshots of the landscapes and features surrounding these islands:

As a fun side project, I quickly put together a map script to accompany these generated terrains. Here’s a high-resolution map:

I also created a low-resolution map for better performance:

During this process, I’ve also become quite proficient in scripting Roblox’s Smooth Terrain. If any of you need help or have questions, feel free to reach out to me. I’ll do my best to provide assistance and support.

I’m really enjoying this project, and I can’t wait to hear your feedback. Let me know what you think i should add or change next, any cool ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, the map reminds me of game galled “Age of Mythology”.
