Profile Page Causing High CPU Usage On Chrome

Reproduction Steps

Browser Information:

  • User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/108.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
  • Platform Type: PC
  • Device Type: Computer

Go to any webpage on Roblox that shows items or characters in 3D

Expected Behavior

The 3D interactive parts on the website should not lag my PC.

Actual Behavior

Really high CPU usage when viewing the 3D models on the webpage.

I do not have an extensions for Roblox installed, same issue happens on Incognito mode with 0 extensions running as well.

I have an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and a RTX 4090 so it definitely should not be using up this much power to view a simple 3D Model on a webpage.

Workaround

Viewing the assets in 2D does not have this issue.

Issue Area: Roblox Website
Page URL: KizmoTek - Roblox
Impact: High
Frequency: Constantly

Are you sure it is not just chrome? Chrome is a large resource hog and takes up logs of memory often so it may not be a bug. Also I don’t seem to be able to replicate your issue on my laptop and I use crome.

Don’t think this should effect this cuz you said about it being only on 3D models but do you have a large amount of tabs or something open?

No it is not from chrome, as soon as I enable the 3D view, the CPU usage starts going up and it lags my computer. It works perfectly fine though in 2D view mode.

This seems to be a hit or miss, some people that I had test it had the same issue while others didn’t so I am not sure what’s happening.

Are you using any Roblox web extensions by any chance, such as RoPro or R+? I’ve noticed this exact problem occurring when I have RoPro enabled & I flip on any 3D views on the site. Disabling ropro stops the issue.

No, I dont use any extensions for Roblox as I mentioned in the post.

Try to use Microsoft Edge… I don’t have lags.

I have an Intel Xeon X5690 and it only used 44%

Instead of using my CPU, it totally uses a significant amount of time on my GPU:

Actually, it appears to be this program:

This is because Instant Replay is on. I don’t have the issue on MS Edge.

However, this seems abnormal:

The Roblox app takes up 30% of my GPU when in the avatar tab. Can anyone else see this?

Thanks for the report! We’ll follow up when we have an update for you.
