I’ve had this problem but sincerely, it isn’t a big issue. Just click on your profile and reload the page. Thats how I have it fixed.
Refreshing the page doesn’t work. You have to sign in and out and wait a minute. It would be a lot more convenient if it would work automatically is my point.
The forums is operated by Discourse, the forum software. They cannot tell when you change your Roblox profile picture, so it won’t update automatically.
I found out if you log out then back in, it changes your avatar picture. I do that every time I change my avatar If I want it to change here.
I’m aware, of that, (thank you to everyone who informed me about it). I was just saying it would be nicer automatically.
This is simply rate limits. ROBLOX has to make a request to an API to get the profile picture everytime you change the link. It is not easy to do this at such big scales.
Uhm, the reply system, like system, and more here on the DevForums are all live updating, if they can do THAT, then they can make your profile picture load quicker, or when people refresh their page.
What about the SSO method used here. Just log out and back in. Not too hard.
I already covered that. The point is making it somewhat more automatic. Refreshing the page would be a perfect example, I mean they can make likes and replies and whatever live, they can make a simple refresh update a small picture in the corner. Its just for convenience…
That is all Discourse. If you want live updates for your profile picture then request it on meta.discourse.org.
You dont understand. ROBLOX doesnt use APIs for devforum posts, or at least I think so. Even if they did, you do understand ROBLOX is pilling up costs to run APIs this fast?
Discouse doesnt handle profile pictures. ROBLOX has to edit the discouse to use ROBLOX APIs for that.
your saying a page refresh is going to bankrupt roblox
I never said that. Why would ROBLOX do that? Discouse provides notifications via the MessageBus, LINK: GitHub - discourse/message_bus: A reliable and robust messaging bus for Ruby and Rack.
I’m aware. The purpose of this was to suggest a better way to update the profile picture sense if people are unaware about the login logout thing.
Overall, is this really essential to forum operations?
This has been asked so many times, and if you are changing your avatar so frequently that logging in/out is burdensome then ask discourse meta to provide that setting mentioned by buildthomas.
