Project cancelled

Hey, I’m Marcos.

I’m a Game Designer, graduated from Senai Maracanã (Brazil), and part of a group called Blood Software.

Today, I just… need to get this off my chest. Don’t really know who to talk to, so here I am.

I had to cancel a game I loved.

It was a Transformers project—my dream. Had everything planned: a 200-page GDD, concepts, characters, mechanics… It was perfect on paper. But now? It’s just a story. If you wanna hear it, here it goes.

Back in 2024, me and some friends had this CRAZY idea:

“Let’s make a Hero Shooter mixed with the chaos of old-school Transformers games.”

The core concept? A “dead universe”—like an aftermath of a war nobody won. Maps would be destroyed versions of War for Cybertron classics, but with secrets, easter eggs, and hidden lore.

The first characters?

  • Decepticons:
Soundwave with CUSTOM CASSETTES (Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Laserbeak…).
Brawl (G1) and Megatron (Fall of Cybertron style).
    Blackjack (Stunticon).

  • Autobots:
Optimus (classic), Cliffjumper (G1), and Jetfire (FOC).
MY FAVORITE: HEATROCK, a miner Autobot who WRECKS in vehicle mode. If he hit you? 350 damage (the highest in the game).

The problem was never the idea. It was, the people.

We had TWO AMAZING PROGRAMMERS, but then outta nowhere, the group decided to pivot to a Tycoon game. After this both quit from the group.

I didn’t fight it.

I tried making a Transformers Minecraft mod, but… it wasn’t the same.

And to top it off, Hasbro nuked a fangame (Transformers Crossfire) with a copyright strike. That broke me.

I’ve got dozens of other GDDs (even a Star Wars: Empire at War one), but Transformers was the one I loved most.

That’s it. Just wanted to put it out there.

If anyone read this far thanks.

Welcome in Roblox (ironically).
Don’t be mad, this happens the whole time.
Just keep going and you may get new ideas :boom:!

Honestly seems like a good idea with a lot of potential, do rebrands so its not directly transformers so you wont get nuked. Hire a development team that you will be paying. People won’t work for a % most of the time as it promises nothing in the end return. Its a really amazing game and I hope you do achieve your dreams.

One thing you may be able to do is adjust the models a little bit so that it doesn’t looks like 1:1 transformers. Or maybe considering contacting original people behind transformers and seek permissions.

Getting permission from Transformers is outrageous, If he manages to pull it off I think the whole Roblox community would be surprised. I would suggest the other approach and don’t make it 1:1 but rather make it your own inspired by Transformers, then if Transformers tries to nuke you. You can always hit them with the "Instead of taking down my game lets partner up and change the models and ill give you revenue from the game"

Well the same happened with notoriety, but they had to change a lot of content. If he is going to do that after the strike anyway, it would be wise to just get it before hand.
