Proof of concept | In game cutscene for character introduction ~ UPDATE 05/02/2024

VERSION 1

I made this rough concept as proof of in game cutscenes being possible to elevate gameplay and user retention

This scene is about the player and their team going on the regular mission to get intel in a new area (Chapter 2 of the game, Chapter 1 is “Black Nebula”) This is a randomly triggered event once a player has done enough side missions to continue with the main ones. Once triggered, this scene will play with the corresponding players.

The unknown soldier is apart of a special group that’s above the players working in secrecy, until now. Our guest appearance is classed as a JAT (Jack of All Trades) so he is deployed in several fields you and your team just met him, and you also find out that he eliminated the person you needed to get intel from, however he knew and got it for you. It’s almost like he’s been watching you…

Any suggestions on follow up scenes, or improvement to this one (Other than just polishing the SFX, Visuals, ectt…) (I might add voice acting to give the characters extra personality, who knows.)

This one is different from the first, as it is a totally different scene but retaining the same info with a new character, quality isn’t really great on this one, but i’m pretty happy with the explosion VFX and SFX.

The new char is the little AI, I was playing halo (as someone suggested) and I thought having an AI buddy would be pretty cool.

What are your thoughts compared to V1 (Other than a need for improved animations and SFX)?

The cutscene is very fast paced, the movement is also very robotic and not natural. In addition it is quite low quality as there are no graphics and etc. I suggest making natural movement animation by copying your self or using the new roblox web cam animation thingy (forgot it’s name) which would help you.

Animation wasnt the best but doesnt mean it wasnt still enjoyable I really liked it keep going!

Basically what Crypt1c said and one small warning, the word “damn” is a blacklisted word. If you keep it in your cutscene, you might get in trouble (this is the part btw)

I personally think cutscenes are pretty underrated within Roblox as I rarely see them yet they could be pretty useful for storytelling. I like the cutscene you made. Adding to what others previously said to improve it, I would make the camera stick closer to characters and more grounded to them, it’s kind of hard to explain, but if you’ve played Halo: Reach (if not then you can watch gameplay videos), you may have seen how sometimes in cutscenes the camera looks like it’s being held by someone, not only it gives a more cinematic and realistic vibe, it also helps with immersion, like if you were there. Of course you could also implement other camera types like “drone-like” movement, or just simple camera movement from point X to Y, that’s up to you really. But again, I liked your cutscene, great job!

I was thinking the same thing, the timing was off and too fast, I appreciate the feedback!

I saw G D in Aperiophobia. There wasn’t audio to it, but it appeared on the bottom of the screen.

That’s a great suggestion! Thanks!

I have spaced out room for V1 and V2
