Maybe - General Discussion (about development & creation) could be - Developmental Discussion (about development & creation)? [/quote]
I think that would be a tad redundant since it would already be under ‘ROBLOX Development & Creation’.
Yeah. I don’t think the parenthetical is part of the subforum name, anyways.
A case could be made for a more specific name, since “General Discussion” is very likely to be taken out of context. “Development Discussion” might be an option.
Edit: About the “new people”/introductions subforum. That’s one option, but I think a sticky thread in the Lounge might be a better choice.
Off topic to the suggested forums, I was hoping we could get a Scripters forum here.
The one on the main site is more full of people asking how to script than properly contributing now-a-days.
I’m sure we can all think of great ideas for subforums, but we need to keep things balanced. It’s easy to get carried away and make 100 subforums that barely get used. At the moment, not too many further subdivisions are needed, but this may change as the community grows or becomes more active.
It may sound like I’m over-thinking this, but it would be nice to have a subforum dedicated to helping developers solve other developer’s errors. (for example, user A has a problem with their script and user B can help them)
First I would move currently active posts into the right section, such as the various Maker Faire, Egg Hunt, site rules, adding new members posts and so forth.
I would then accept requests to move a post, though I’m not sure the best method to make a request. Please do not use the moderation feature for move requests. Save that for actual bad posts.
Everybody seems to have ignored that one. This ‘I’m new!’ forum should be added. It’s a way to present our achievements and allow to the new people to give a good impression of who they are and also to avoid this.
Ok who voted no. lol. There goes the unanimous outcome. :DDD
I am going to move forward with the change I proposed this morning. The other suggestions have been noted and will be re-visited when the other admins are back in the office.
From my (so many) years of forum experience, the basic wisdom is this:
Add a new forum when there are enough posts to support it based on the size of the community. For this size community I would want to make a forum that will get posts every day or every couple days. It’s also time to make a new forum when a topic starts to disrupt an existing forum, and needs its own home, such as in the case of “chatter” in the development forums. As um3k suggested, a sticky post can go a long way to supporting a topic that is not getting enough posts to be its own forum.
97 percent to 2 percent.
I wonder which option wins…
EDIT: I agree with Reese, new subforums will be useful when we have a good amount of users. For now, I think the lounge is adequate.
