The Purple and White Lei accessory utilizes an incorrect accessory attachment (and type), “Neck” as apposed to “Hat,” subsequently altering its position on the avatar and deviating from the original Lei hat.
Further, the Orange and White Lei accessory shares a similar issue with its “Neck” type, but the position is instead identical to the original.
As such, the misclassification of both items gives a ‘swaying’ effect upon walking, relative to the player. In the example provided below, the original hat follows the player’s head movement/rotation, while the latter follows the torso’s movement.
Reproduction Steps:
Insert or equip related items onto avatar.
Observe the lowered position and swaying of both Lei accessories.
Visual Aids:
Lei, Orange and White Lei shown, but occurs with Purple and White Lei too.
The staff can’t change the accessory type from “Neck” to “Hat” after the item has already been published. Quote below from Starhiker on that. But, the positioning on said item can be fixed.
Likewise, good point. Both Lei accessories possess NeckAttachments that may be changed. Shame that they will still be sorted by neck in the inventory, though.
The Purple and White Lei is a Neck Accessory, uses the Neck Attachment, and is placed at the neck, so it will remain unchanged. We understand the request to change this to a Hat Accessory, but we cannot change Accessory types once the Accessory is released. We also didn’t want to move it to be at the same positions as the other two Leis because by doing so, we will break the placement for all the other users who like it where it is.
The Lei is a Hat Accessory, uses the Hat Attachment, and is placed at the top of the head, so we didn’t make any updates.
The Orange and White Lei is a Neck Accessory, uses the Neck Attachment, but is placed at the top of the head. Since we can’t change the Accessory Type, and we do not want to change the Accessory position, we went in and changed the Attachment to now use Hat Attachment. This way, this Lei will move with the head.
Please let us know if this doesn’t work. Thank you again.
Is there any plans in the future to add functionality to change types as there’s a lot of accessories with incorrect categorization. I don’t know how it works internally but shouldn’t it be possible in some way as items had to be given accessory types when adding R15 back in 2016.
Unfortunately, I did not mention a key piece of information in my report about the Purple and White Lei itself. For that reason, I apologize.
The Purple and White Lei item was in fact not mispositioned, when it initially released back in May of 2024. The accessory was a copy of the Orange and White Lei with a texture change, but after an erroneous update, the position broke.
While some users may appreciate the ‘broken’ position, the original intent for the hat’s design was to align with the previous iterations of said accessory. Likewise, on a personal note, the appeal towards this gift card item was solely due to its retexture of the Lei, as have many other users and friends shared.
Provided below is an example of an outfit using the Purple and White Lei accessory prior to its mispositioning (May 2024), and its use today:
On some more positive notes, the Orange and White Lei now works as intended, thank you for the adjustment!
Further, the new system for handling bug reports and approving changes has been significantly improved, keeping a well balanced approach on the intended audience; us users!
Grabbed both versions using Roblox’s asset API, and sure enough the original went on top of your head. The model’s name was also changed from “LeiHat” to “LeiNecklace” suggesting this was an intentional change. Economy API shows it was last updated in June 2024, after the Lei stopped being included with gift cards, but I don’t think there’s an easy way to tell if that was this position change or an unrelated update to the hat.
Good catch. I can confirm after looking at previous screenshots, the first time I had noticed the neck positioned version was near the end of June 2024, which lines up with your evidence.
Interesting that the model name was changed as well. Nonetheless, I assume that the original intent was for the hat to share an identical position to the previous versions of the Lei items, but perhaps a staff member spotted the “Neck” accessory type and accidentally adjusted it accordingly. Not to mention, the ‘updated’ position does not look very good in the slightest, with heavy clipping into the torso and appearing backwards, if it really were to sit on the neck.
I still believe that the hat should be reverted to its original version, as it would be unfair to users who had purchased the gift card item specifically for its likeness to the Lei series, just for it to be changed.
