Question about Meshes & PBR

Hello, I’ve spent the past few weeks really learning blender. I use a lot of surface appearances in some of my builds (or in other terms PBR.) However, I sometimes question if I am doing something wrong or not.

Here is my problem: I’ve seen some great projects by other people in the community with their flooring because of the surface appearance on their meshes. I put surfaceappearance on my floors but they don’t look very good and I’ve even had a few people suggest I use them when I already am. My floors tend to look more like a texture then an actual PBR.

Here is an example of my flooring: Untitled Game - Roblox

Here is an example of my expectations of quality, or in other terms what I think might look way better then the PBRs I’ve used recently: Screenshot by Lightshot

I do not recommend designing the texture in Blender. Armor Paint, Substance Painter, etc. are really good tools to easily get PBR.

Here is an attempt I just made in Substance Painter using a trial. This is probably the ugliest walls I’ve ever made in my life. This time I don’t think it was another factor, but myself just choosing ugly PBRs. Here is also a photo of what I was going for.

It takes practice. Here is an animated gun textured in substance:

You didn’t have to flex this hard.

I did not texture it, my weapon modeler did. I was simply trying to demonstrate capability.
