Questioning why the editable image/mesh apis REQUIRE an id to use

This is coming from a separate topic that im moving from dev discussion (and please do change this category if needed instead of deleting the post)

but for ages now ive wondered why you need an id to use an api. its completely nonsensical to force a low risk feature behind giving a corporation your personal info.

ive been working on a graphical based project for around 9-10 months now and i really want to share it by making it public outside of a few shared images, but i cant since it uses an editable image so it doesnt explode cpus. its a path tracing project that i started to merely challenge myself and to learn more about scripting in general (which ill link if you wanna see how its going → here)

im on a 13+ account with a phone number linked to me (a 17 year old) and i made my account over 9 years ago, so it would make sense if i, and everyone else who would clearly be over 13 just had access to it. and it doesnt make sense either since voice chat and even some front page games can expose you to worse much quicker and A LOT more often

cause for editable images you have to: create an editable image using assetservice, create a module or table storing either hand written pixel data or data derived from an external script that converts image pixels to a roblox buffer, then you gotta apply that buffer to the image using the WritePixelsBuffer method. which clearly would have some very isolated incidents to do with rule breaking due to how tedious is it to get an inappropriate image on them, it wont go rampant like the easier to use things like clothing and models. same goes with editable meshes but im not really sure if you use a buffer or not since ive never used them

but yea, questioning why i absolutely REQUIRE an id to access 2 apis that have basically no risk to them. cause right now i could

  • A: join a game and instantly see someone using inappropriate accessories (which i see every other day)
  • B: go into a game and hear someone screaming slurs or playing audio with bypassed slurs (which im pretty sure ive come across)
  • C: search smtn and come across rule breaking games (which has also happened to me a couple times)

all of which can happen without an id, and in some cases an <13 account could and have been able to encounter the same things if not worse. if my account info clearly says im over 13 let alone 17, then i should get access to 13+ and 17+ features. hell even my own phone number which is linked to and verified with my account is using my actual date of birth yet i still dont get access to the dumbest of features, yet get access to the ones that pose an actual risk. my date of birth set on my account is my actual date of birth too, and ive been on the platform for over 9 years, so it should be obvious that im old enough to use editable images especially if im completely fine to use voice chat which is FAR riskier than being able to play around with image data

and as ive already said, if this falls under the wrong category, please either request me to change it or change it to the correct category yourself. this just seemed most fitting since i got warned for putting this in dev discussion
