I’m creating a lighthouse where the base it’s built upon is an oblong, I’m just not sure on the best way to go about that shape.
Personally I would import from blender
Ideally, you should use Blender for that but if you don’t know how/ don’t want to use it, then I recommend you the Archimedes plugin that allows you to rotate parts at different degrees.
It’s an irregular shape and I’m intending on keeping the number of sides relative and positioned in relation to the lighthouse it’s self, as well as keeping the build 100% in parts.
My only idea is:
Creating a circle and then resizing it to create an approximate shape, then using gap fill to connect each corner which could result in what I’m going for, but it seems a dirty method.
If I can’t find a decent solution, I’ll probably have to make it in blender
It’s far from being the prettiest thing, but here’s a first attempt using this method
Doesn’t look right at all but I still want to avoid blender for this project.
I mean with Archimedes you’d be able to do it just fine. Yes, it does have an option to create circles But the main function of it is to generate parts rotated under a certain degree to another one. At least try to use it. I’m certain it’ll be a lot easier for you to use that than resize + gap fill (which spawns quite a lot of unnecessary parts that may end up lowering the performance of the game).
After going through reference images I’ve decided that capturing the actual shape of the base isn’t worthwhile, I’m not going for an accurate recreation.
so this is how it’ll look now.
I’ll just go ahead and mark this as solved, thanks for everyone’s input
If anyone’s curious, I’m trying to recreate this:
A french lighthouse, I found a sketchup model and figured it’d be a good reference for the base.
If what I have built doesn’t make sense, I’ll likely be posting the progress or finished pictures in a few days.
You can pretty handily do this in Studio using wedges and parts -
