Problem: Regardless of the method of access the group has set, the button will always show “Join Group”. Public groups will allow the user to join instantaneously while a private access group will send a join request. The access level of the group (public or private) isn’t known until you search the group up or send a join request. Point in case; the group’s access level isn’t visible on the main group page and the “Join Group” button gives users the impression that they can freely join any and all groups.
Solution: Either change the blue button to say “Request Access” or add another field to the ownership/information table stating what the access level of the group is. This way, when users click on ads and are led to group pages, they know immediately, without having to search, the access level of the group.
This feature request is mainly based on aesthetic than function. It’d be nice to differentiate public and private groups right away. It’d also help users gauge their group limits so they can remain within their maximums and still be accepted into the group.
I support this - no reason not to. I sometimes find myself trying to join a group for something quickly like joining one of their games or something and I end up pending access to it. What’s worse is that you can’t cancel the request for access, so you end up joining the group when they accept you and you’ve probably forgotten about it by then and you wonder why all your group slots are full.
I have actually gone through the effort of filling up my groups to my maximum group limit in order to cancel the request. Of course, this does not really work if you have OBC and have a virtually unlimited amount of group space.
I support this. I too get frustrated when I want to join a group that makes you think its instant access and it goes pending and who knows how long you will be pending for. So I would really like an easier way to identify a group that is pending invite vs instant access.
