R15 ArtistIntent Joint Positions

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve Roblox Avatars, we are adding support for alternative joint locations for avatars called Artist Intent. These new locations will be different for each costume and are designed to make the movements of these characters look more natural.

Adding data for all the existing packages will take some time, so currently, for most packages the Artist Intent joint locations are the same as the Standard Fixed locations. Over time, Roblox will be updating these locations to make them specific for the package and body parts they belong to.

By default, these new locations are currently disabled and all avatars loaded into games will use the traditional Standard joint locations. Developers, though, have the option to enable these new joint locations in their game by going to the Configure Game/AvatarSettings and selecting the Costume Based Avatar Joint Position Option.

The data for these new joint locations will be loaded from the R15ArtistIntent folder inside the body part objects for places that have this option enabled.

Any chance of a demo to show how they vary?

Here’s an extreme example for the changes. Most of the changes will not be as noticeable.

Is this disabled by default for new games created, or just for all currently existing games?

Currently, this is disabled by default for all games. You will have to opt in for your games if you’d like this behavior.
