Random Dark Spaces

So, I’ve got some dark spaces under my chalet which aren’t supposed to be there as i’ve found that another one nearby does not have shadows underneath it. I’ve put my lighting on ShadowMap. The graphics have also been turned down to about 2, but I’m 50% sure thats not the reason why.

This is how its supposed to look:

Could anyone help?

Try setting Ambient to something lighter (do not keep it on black). If you want you can turn it all the way to white and if it is too bright then just bring down the Brightness option.

Edit, also try setting Cast Shadow off for the parts you do not want to cast shadows.

You probably just need to add lighting there. If the opposite side of the chalet is fine, it has something to do with the sun/shadow map lighting. If you don’t want to add lights, try setting the lighting to voxel and see if that makes any difference. Hope this helps

Thanks for your help but it was the ambient.

What ambient would you recommend? I’ve put it on a grey one, but it seems a bit bright. I want one that goes as realistically as possible.

I do not know, what looks right to you. I recommend balancing the properties to something reasonable so that lighting is not too extreme.

Maybe try setting Ambient to a gray color? This does not only depend on the Ambient, but also other properties and effects. I also suggest using Bloom Effect to brighten things up.

Cheers, I will certainly try using a bloom effect. I’ve put it on 128,128,128 just for the record.

There is an option in lightings to turn of global shadows, or you can change the type of lighting to Compatible and adjust the ambience to make it look sharp or you can turn off shadows for each part. Changing the ambience alone will give you the same effect but the problem occurs when there is night time and day time setting in your game, if ambience is really high during the night time it will be bright and that would ruin the look of the build.

I think I’ll try and make a script where it changes the ambient, global shadows and brightness automatically, to make it both realistic and night and day. What do you think about this or should I do it differently, because I can’t find a balance between the two.

You really don’t have to make a script for it, just change the lighting settings to shadow map or compatible like I mentioned earlier, making a script for it does not sound like its the proper way to go about it.

No I mean, the game has a time script so the game time changes so it would be necessary? Sorry I worded it wrong.

If the world has a time script, that wont fix the shadow areas completely, and you cant add anything that changes the ambience from time to time when its day/night.
