Hey all, looking for feedback on new game
How fun/good is the core gameplay?
Is there anything you DISLIKED in the first 1 minute of playing?
Right now, the game feels dead silent. It doesn’t feel engaging.
I think things you can do to fix this is to add some music or some other sound effects to make it feel exciting. Adding some more hiding spots would also be nice.
The map with the jail cells is pretty big in proportion when compared to a roblox character, also. So, there’s lots of dead space and makes it feel empty. I think smaller maps could make it more exciting bc then you have less space to travel, which makes it feel more restrictive and uneasy and I think that’s what these survival games are all about–to get you on the edge of your seat bc you need to survive
There’s no music in the game so everything feels quiet, the loading screen was pretty bland and I didn’t even know if it was working at first because nothing was happening, and maybe add an option for new players to join the current round or at least have something to do in the lobby because I had to wait around for three minutes to even start a game.
Yes your right Maps are 100% essential and need to be designed correctly
For this style of gameplay, tight maps, with places to hide are best
Murder Mystery 2 has very small maps as well
A wide open map would be extremely boring
The game is cool, it has a good idea, but as the guys above said.
It seems kind of dead and the map is small.
Also, there should be a waiting time to hit the player again when you are the gorilla
And something to do in the lobby during the waiting time.
That said, it’s great!
Keep working!
Maps - I tried to make tighter maps with more obstacles. Gives you more to interact with and hide behind
Added an Auto-Join Game feature for people joining the server. Except for last 60 seconds of the game
I won’t write anything about dislike because it sets a negative tone. Instead, I’ll just offer my honest feedback.
I read the game description, so it does technically tell you what is going on. I feel that more in-game instruction is needed. When I joined, before I even knew what was going on, I was the “gorilla”. I didn’t know what I was doing, what the controls were, etc. I also noticed that when other players are the gorilla, they can hit you from across the map almost sometimes. Same thing with the “Sheriff” and getting hit around corners somehow. The game feels like it would be in it’s “Alpha” version. Technically everything kinda works, but it needs more fine tuning of game play, map design, game flow, game menus, etc.
Suggestions for Improvement:
- Don’t rely on the client to be honest about “hitting” the other players. I can already see issues with high latency players hitting other players from too far away or around corners that doesn’t visually make sense and seems like those high latency players are cheating in some way, even if they are not.
- In-game instructions need to be present, even if they are simple.
- Don’t put players that just joined right into the middle of a game, they have no idea what is going on if they are new like I was.
- Scoring system. If you win or lose, it doesn’t matter because there is nothing to keep track of.
- Music, if you are not the type to produce your own music, Roblox has lots of free music you can use. Just be sure to give players a way to mute or turn the volume down. Don’t set music default at a volume higher than 33% as it can get too distracting or annoying to the player.
- Map voting system often show the same map twice, so you can really only vote on 2 maps. Sometimes it might show 3 of the same map.
- The gorilla sounds are a mix of many different species. Sure, that is a nit-pick, but unless you plan on allowing the player to pick why type of great ape they will look like, it is a little odd.
- Another nit-pick, but does the hunting player have to be named “Sheriff”? I don’t see much “keeping the law” going on in this game.
- Finally, be sure to get some basic anti-cheat protection installed. Even in my testing, I saw some players cheating the speed and flying around. I think to myself, “Really, in this game?”.
Rating at 70%. So bad… Hmm
Session time only 6 minutes. Right at 50th percentile. I wonder what can improve that
Removd the auto join feature. It mightve been too much for a player 5 seconds in to get put into the action. Now its just Auto-Spectate, like before.
My rating dropped from like 78% to 71% in a few hours just from that 1 update
Yeah, players are always quick to vote negative, and dang near like pulling teeth to ask them to up vote the game when they have been having fun and playing for a long time. I get the idea of the vote system because I’ve seen some truly terrible games down-voted to like 9% but I’ve also seen some terrible games up-voted to +95% because the game owner offered some free “toolset” model for the vote.
This needs work.
The game loop is just murder mystery without any sort of mystery or stealth aspect, which is simply put, unengaging and boring. I suggest you implement some sort of quirk to the gameplay that makes it interesting and unique. For example, make it so the gorilla moves very fast, but cannot turn very well, and the players without weapons can use items to trip or stun the gorilla. Or make it so the gorilla can destroy the environment, opening up new flanks to ambush the hunter or the players.
I agree with you in theory potentially. Murder Mystery also has the Mystery element to its core gameply loop
But to counter, a game like “Survive the Killer” is pretty similar to this game also. Yet those games work
Do you want your game to just “work” or do you want your game to stand out? If you want your game to grow, players need a reason to stay and not just leave and go to a game like Survive the Killer, which is the same concept, but better execution.
You don’t make a successful game by doing the bare minimum.
It may be true that the Core Gameplay isnt Fun, or is Boring, for certain people.
Personally I find it to be somewhat fun.
The gameplay loop mirrors Murder Mystery quite closely:
- Monster runs around trying to melee kill everyone (knife / monster)
- Hunter (Sheriff) has a Pistol to fight the Monster (Murderer)
- Run, Hide, Juke out the Monster (Murderer)
- Collect coins to unlock skins
I wonder what would improve gameplay
