Re-Creating Legoland in Roblox -- Is it allowed?

I couldn’t really find the right board to put this question but this one seemed most suitable._

Legoland Windsor is a theme park in the UK which I have very fond memories of as a child. Recently I have come across some of the old park music on YouTube which has inspired my to re-create it in Roblox.

However I am wondering if that would be against the ToS or Roblox rules in any way? The project would involve me uploading Legoland images, music and probably advertising it on the site too.

Knowing that Roblox like to disassociate themselves from Lego as much as possible, as well as this being potentially seen as advertising, i’m wondering if I would be allowed to do it. I know that Disneyland and Universal parks exist on Roblox and stand fine.

I doubt that’d be allowed. The Lego brand is listed on this list: https://devforum.roblox.com/t/list-of-prohibited-intellectual-properties/19997

Unless otherwise specified, all assets related to the following properties will be blocked by our moderation team

You could always try and reach out to Legoland Parks to obtain permission. I don’t see why it’d be against Roblox’s T&Cs if the copyright owner has given explicit permission for its use.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

I wonder why new members don’t have permission to view what IP’s aren’t allowed to use. Seems like information every developer should be aware of.

Technically you shouldn’t be using any IP with a copyright. Practically impossible to give a full list.

I’ve seen in some anime that they literally change McDonald’s to WcDonalds without any problem so I presume you would be able to change the name / advertisements slightly and then be able to upload them / build without any repurcisions.

Roblox may still view this as using someone’s IP tho.

True.

Hmm ok, so I wouldn’t be allowed to use any of the lego branding or name itself.

I might still make the park, but just not have any Lego branding and call it something else.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

Basically you can’t use another persons work ( in this case the Lego / Theme Park IP ) unless you get their permission and don’t earn any profit.

An example is RiotGames

Most companies won’t allow this though, so yes your best bet is to just remove their branding unless you’re willing to contact them about it ( though they would probably say no anyway )

Try creating Bloxyland instead. :ok_hand:

I prefer BloxLand. Or StudLand, however StudLand sounds like a bit of a dicey name without context.

Is there a version of that list which is visible to new members? I feel like it’s vital information.

Yes, I really want to see but it says I do not have permission.

Like @Extuls said, it’s advised to just not use anybody’s IP. Though Pokemon Brick Bronze seems to be fine with using the Game Freaks IP & assets :woman_shrugging:
