I’ve recently been getting messages through the website’s chat feature (this thing)
And I am being notified that I have 4 unread messages; however, when I check to see who messaged me, I see a list of friends, but no messages, the top message being someone who I just accepted a friend request from.
This happened earlier, between another person who friend requested me, which brought my unread messages to 2.
Unfriending these players brings my unreads down
I have always maintained a policy that if you send me a friend request, then message me using the website chat feature in any way, I will instantly unfriend you.
The reason for this is that it leaves an annoying, bloaty number on the website title that shows up on my browser’s tabs.
However, now I can’t see who messaged me, because their chat messages won’t even show up, and I can’t mark them as read because I can’t read them in the first place, because they don’t seem to exist. So now I have to just guess at who as been messaging me, and unfriend them at random so that my tabs/unread notification markers can return back to normal.
Yes, I have been in Team Create. Usually I don’t use Chat in Team Create, but there might have been some ghost messages (I can’t see any messages in TC chat, but this issue seems to be related to chat messages not showing up anyways).
And now that you mention it, the top three results on the list of friends in the “Chat” feature on the website are all people I’ve been in TC with. I still don’t see any messages from them though.
I don’t think it matters. There’s been nobody in a team create place I’ve been in, no chat messages in the team create, but suddenly I’ve got a notification on the website.
This might account for some of the cases; other cases are people who I’ve never been in TC with, but recently accepted a friend request from; two of these notifications went away when I unfriended two people that I had just recently friended.
Yep, same thing is happening to me. I ended up just ad blocking the chat button, but it doesn’t fix the chrome tab or whatever browser you’re using (x) number.
I am also receiving this message thing and it isn’t going away even though i am apparently “reading” after i get a friend request. If this could be fixed it would be amazing haha!
Usually, when I come across this problem, I use the mobile app for Roblox to open the messages/chats that are seen as if they were not read yet, and once I hope and close them, the notification tends to go away.
People shouldn’t go through this all to get rid of the notifications and the number in the header. Hopefully, though a possible fix can be seen for this.
In my case, a notification always appears after accepting a friend request. I never really cared about roblox’s website chat anyways, so it’s a bit annoying to have to open up all those tabs to get it to go away.
Dude, this happens to me all the time. Every device, every browser. It gets to the point where MY messages that I SENT will appear as unread on my end.
The only thing that I’ve found that sometimes works is using the mobile app and replying to every unread chat. Of course, this only works every full moon, so don’t take it as a solution.

People who have never messaged me are showing up as unread in my list (I KNOW they have never messaged me, because I contacted them elsewhere and asked) and I can’t get rid of the badge. The badge. It follows me everywhere. The chat window, the tab title, it is SO annoying and I can’t get rid of it!
This definitely has to be the one of the most annoying things I always experience as well. Glad someone finally brought it up
Usually happens to me whenever I go into group team creates. Its nearly impossible to get rid of the notification unless I DM them like 5 times. It’s basically useless, because the next time I go back into a TC, I get the notification back
This is honestly driving me up the wall, I had this issue nearly a year ago. I reported it to Roblox and got told they will look into it. I currently have 7 chat messages but I have read them all!
I think this is a bad attempt from Roblox to encourage us to communicate with new friends.
Notification stays until you either message your new friend, unfriend him or he sends a message and you read it. If you don’t feel like talking to him, it’s real pain. This behaviour must be removed.
