Redesign advertising on Roblox - "Roblox Ads"

Introduction

As a developer & business owner, I market my products with Facebook business manager and it’s very useful and allows me track and direct the ads to possible customers. Now, you may ask, what does Facebook have to do with Roblox?

Roblox is a growing platform and isn’t stopping now. It’s a matter of time before studios, companies, agencies and much more notice the power of the platform.

Advertising with Roblox is currently a pain. Every 24-hours I must bid more and again, and again without a notice of advertisements being offline. I understand this is a 24-hour interval/impression based system, but having a better advertising platform would be great.

Similar to the “create.roblox.com”, I recommend adding “ads.roblox.com” as the new dashboard (currently returns a “OK” message).

Concept Design

Here’s a few ideas I have in mind. This can also hold game sponsoring on a “tab”
Please note these are concept designs.

For a new advertiser who just opened the dashboard:

For an established advertiser who is currently running advertisements:

I know these are just simple designs, but imagine the power of having this basic design and continuously adding onto it?

Targeting

  • Game Awareness: Targets everyone on the website as it does currently, no change.

  • Conversions: This will target users who are proven to purchase gamepasses/shirts/items from actively clicking ads. Does not equate to a large player base, just users who have high purchase habits.

  • Traffic: Targets players who actively click ads and plays the game only. (Low history of purchasing items when joining games/groups)

  • Joins: Targets players who actively click ads and join groups. (Low history of playing group games, just joining the group)

Specific Targeting

  • Location targeting: Having the ability to target international players or local players. (i.e; United States, Mexico, Canada, Turkey, United Kingdom, Brazil, etc)

  • Age targeting: This will be an incredible addition to the advertising space. Two different options: 13+ and Under 13. (Under 13 will have terms to be accepted similar to when publishing a game to the Xbox user-base).

  • Device targeting: Having the ability to target iOS / Android individually for mobile sponsors. Windows / iOS / Roblox App for web advertisements and sponsors.

  • Interests: This will give us a list of all current genres on Roblox. (I don’t know if Roblox tracks users interests in genres (games they play) but if they do, this will be a breeze). For example if we have a “Town and City” game, we can target users who actively play “Town and City” games, same for “Sci-Fi”, and so on.

Also could have an option box of "Allow Roblox to expand your targeting to maximize your results." where Roblox automatically chooses the interests that best fits the game and players who click the ads & play

  • Premium: Ability to target Premium users or Non-Premium users. (This will actively promote better quality ads on the platform)

Budgets

  • Lifetime Budgets: In addition to the 24-hour interval, there should be an addition of being able to have a “Start Date, Start Time” and “End Date, End Time”.

  • Daily Budgets: This will allow advertisers to advertise daily and will stop if they have insufficient funds. Will have “Run continuously starting today” and “Start Date, Start Time” and “End Date, End Time”.

Performance

  • Analytics: Through the dashboard, we can have a graphical data (similar to DevStats) of Impressions (X) Clicks (Y). For example: 1,000 Impressions = 100 Clicks
  • Analytics 2: Robux (X) Clicks (Y). For example: 1 Robux = 12 Clicks
  • Analytics 3: Robux (X) Impressions (Y) For example: 1 Robux = 112.2 Impressions

With being able to look back on advertisement/sponsor history of 24 hours / 7 days / 30 days.

Conclusion

This will allow huge marketers to be able to work on other things while advertisements are running automatically. With a possible "You’ll spend up to x Robux on this advertisement." at the bottom.

Roblox boasts over 150 million MAU’s and is only growing month-over-month. The amount of data and advertising can be done for our games is truly amazing if the right team and effort is put into creating a better advertising dashboard.

I think the addition of this would greatly help the promotion of not only my games but the games of newer developers and genre-specific games grow because currently the advertising system gives no feedback other than CTR/Impressions/Clicks which In my opinion is enough but not enough to truly scale advertisements. I believe this would best help not only me but again, everyone who advertises on Roblox when there are more options and better targeting with budgets.

Thank you and if anyone has any questions/concerns, please feel free to respond and I’ll answer when I am available.

I completely agree with this. The current ad system is pretty insignificant and not as helpful as this is right here. I am in full support of you! :+1:

Love this! This would make creating ads easier and simpler for people that are new to advertising on the platform.

An overhauled advertising system was mentioned at RDC 2020 with more features (such as targeting). Interesting concept design!

If roblox doesnt add this i will be very angry. No cheese for roblox if they dont add it.

This would be really nice for, the site. But it could be worst for advertisers, because as you said lowers how many people click on the ad.

:will smith voice: ahh thats hot :flushed:

this is so neat…and so organized compared to the official page lol, hopefully roblox renew the ad page with some aspects of your concept design!!! :star_struck:

The first thing of advertising in many cases aren’t how many click the ad, but how many click the ad just to either play the game or purchase a gamepass/design/item. Collecting conversion data on individual advertisements are impossible and to test new ads we have to run it in increments of 500 R$ when in reality we should be running more to target a specific user group instead of the entire website.

Haha! Thank you. Not completely done but I am actively working on continuing my concept design so hopefully it can be taken into consideration with the creator developer services team.
