Redline: Overdrive Devlog #1

Hello, recently I’ve been working on an upcoming arcade racer game called Redline: Overdrive that will be inspired by a racing game series called Burnout which was known for aggressive/dangerous driving and over the top crashes.

About the game:
The main idea of the game will be completing different events in order to unlock new tracks & vehicles. The game will also focus on aggressive driving but like the Burnout games, the tracks will feature traffic on them for the player to use to KO their rivals or to dodge at very fast speeds. The game will take place across 28 tracks set across the USA (Texas), Europe (Germany), Asia (Singapore) & Australia. The game will have 30 player vehicles with 10 available from the start and 20 unlocked via the world tour. The game will also have 8 different game modes. The game will also have a score system which will earn players points by taking risks on the track or scoring KOs during the event. Just a reminder that the game will not endorse or encourage dangerous or reckless driving of any kind in the real world which is why a warning message will appear upon loading up the game. Also just to add, the cars and game will not have any people/pedestrians in them to avoid any graphic/realistic depictions of car crashes.

Game Modes:
Race (A lapped circuit or Point to Point with the player up against 5 other rival drivers).
Flaming Lap (1 lap of the track to earn a medal).
Road Fury (Score as many KOs within a set amount of time).
Hot Pursuit (Player will drive target car instead of police car).
Showdown (1V1 against an AI racer to win a new car).
60 Second Wipeout (Every 60 seconds, the last place driver is wiped out of the race).
Survivor (Race to the finish but 3 crashes and it’s game over).
Marathon (A race set over the Marathon circuit of each region but where there will be 7 rivals instead of 5).

Below are some screenshots of what will become the title screen but also the vehicles that will feature in the game but the designs are not final.

Traffic (WIP)

That’s all I will talk about for now in this devlog but I will try and work on the game as much as I can but if you have any feedback, suggestions or improvements for the game, feel free to leave a comment and I will try and add them into the game as development progresses.

In the next devlog post I will plan on focusing the game’s UI but also go a bit more into depth about the game’s world tour championship mode and how it will act as the main progression within the game.

I think it’s going to be quite interesting and fun making the game since I do think that arcade racing games should make a return in my honest opinion. I’m gonna try and make it as fun as possible considering the fact that traffic will be present on all tracks/events within the game to provide some challenge.

This looks very cool ngl. I hope you will finish it like you wanted!

Thank You. I do hope to finish it as well as I do feel like the game has potential but it is something I wanted to make for a long time.
