Reference Matching/Animation Critique

Hey! I’m currently making a magic game, and I wanted to add variety to the game, so I looked at Pokémon’s Fire Skills.

Now, I attempted this - Cinderace used Pyro Ball! - YouTube

But I’m not completely sure on the accuracy of the actual skill (VFX) I know i’ll need to add a bezier for the other particles, but that’s for when I make the Skill and VFX framework. My main worry is the animation accuracy.

I feel like it’s missing a lot but captures the general look. (Follow-Through hasn’t been added yet, and I wasn’t sure to add other elements such as drag to this animation.)

i think the time when the dummy was in the air the animation was just to smooth, and i couldn’t really see if he was using his right or left leg to kick the rock. you should have more keyframes for each action instead of having it in one smooth animation because it makes it seem like the character is actually kicking it instead of the character just floating. also people don’t really move in the air like that? i don’t see the cinderace moving in the air like that. (also you shouldn’t just copy the animation, unless this is practice. if not, try adding different movement to, like a twirl or flip or anything of the sort.)

oh, and for the impact, try to freeze the character for 2-3 frames. it gives the hit more of an impact.
