Your own animations: Free
Making it public domain: 30 R$ fee
But maybe you don’t even need that, since lots of people won’t even bother making their animations public domain.

Man, finding this thread took me a LOT more time than what I would expect. In any case, good news, is in about 2 weeks
Also @Nick, previewing animations is an entirely different beast. What we have for preview right now is just an OBJ loader/previewer. Not something that is rendering at real time. Big feature bro. Big feature.
Cheers.

You could pre-render the animation from 4 different directions and play them in gif/mp4 format on the website.

This is great news for me because over the course of the past 6 or so months, I’ve spent over 2,500 robux on animations alone, especially when I screw up and have to update them.
Can we possibly get refunds on animations we purchased? All of that is stored in our transaction history, so we have a clear-cut record of who purchased them.
I highly doubt refunds will be made. You knew that you would be charged before you bought them.
(Didn’t y’all say that this was the future on some stream?)
I use the animation editor for custom characters (knee/elbow joints and different part sizes). The character the animation is made for isn’t included with the animation, making it not possible to do it in first place (unless the website decides to make assumptions).
Anyway, good news, will save quite some robux in the end and of course, promote usage of animations.
Animation editor could really use some improvements, though.
This won’t work for all cases. Dennisvdz has explained why. We need to update the animation schema first before we think of anything like this.
And no, no refunds.
This won’t work for all cases. What about dennis who is making his own rig and making an animation. Do we apply all animations to the default body? Then the preview will look broken. We need to update the animation schema first before we think of anything like this.
That’s true. My final comment would be just allowing animation view for animations created for normal humanoid just for easiness sake but if you guys are designing a system for viewing all types of animations in the future, it probably wouldn’t be worth doing the basic viewer.
I think we would end up doing basic humanoid first and adding a tag to something that has more than that saying it can’t be previewed. Then work on the advanced viewer. I still dislike development purchases/sharing done outside of the development environment if we can integrate it into the development environment. Asset store in Studio, browsable, shareable, purchasable right there is the right solution I would think.
I would be happy if I could just make a tool that uses an animation I published, put it on free models, and not have to worry about people not being able to see the animations.
Sorry for necrobumping this, but any update on when animations are going to become free? It’s been more than two weeks since Sorcus said they were going to become free…
One thing you need to know about roblox is that they never promise an exact date for stuff to be released or at least they shouldn’t.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m just saying that with all that work it may need more time than what they have expected…
But yes I really do want this to come out soon so a better question would be: How is it going on making this available for us?
I hope this comes soon. I have a little butterfly who wants to flap his wings.
Like, how can anyone keep this little guy waiting?
