The only time anyone ever uses it is when they’ve made a scam and they don’t want people to be able to post comments warning other players. I can’t think of a single legitimate reason to disable comments on anything.
Thoughts?

There are more reasons to disable comments.
But I am annoyed when I see a game that’s terrible and the comments are disabled because the creator knows their terrible.
It’s kind of like if restaurants turned off reviews so that everyone visited.

Ethan, I disabled comments on my game yesterday due to spam and self promotion being so high that I could not keep track of feedback.
Instead I opened 4 different threads so that people could give me organised feedback as shown below:
I don’t want comments on my game. They’re messy and don’t serve me any purpose.
Comments should be tanked altogether – they don’t accomplish anything except on small games that aren’t popular where people can give feedback.

Spam is another problem altogether. While it would be nice if that were fixed, it’s not what this thread is about and disabling comments on your game wasn’t essential to you opening other feedback outlets. I’m sure your threads would receive just as much traffic if you re-enabled comments.
Many other rating systems would be preferable to the current comment system but that’s really another suggestion entirely.
I think in general ROBLOX needs to work on the comment’s moderation, a lot of people can get away with spam post such as “Post this on 100 Places, log out log in for ROBUX!!!11”
I purpose that ROBLOX adds a thumbs up system to the comments section such as on Youtube.
Then comments can be sorted in different sections -Most Recent -Most Helpful to name a few.

Well you cannot disable comments on paid access games, which makes sense as people have to first pay to get into the game to see what it’s like.
But when a game is free-to-play, there’s not much to lose by joining the game without knowing what the feedback for it is like.
If it’s a bad game, people will vote it down.
But then again, downvotes have the same amount of effect on the greater playerbase as comments do … not very much of an effect.
Also, cutting off comments was specifically done to increase forum posts traffic, as it’s the only way people can now give feedback.
I also think multiple threads looks nicer. :3
Perhaps only allow disabling comments on free or not-for-sale assets?
YouTube is a terrible model because they don’t do it based on rating but the number of nested replies instead
So you get a lot of butt hurt rising to the top a lot
Yes.

Your right Youtube does have its flaws, ITunes review/comment page is pretty good actually.
ITunes also uses a system where people are asked “Was this a helpful review?” Yes|No
Maybe if instead of it being a comment section they make a Review Section for games, and maybe people can be rewarded for writing good quality reviews of games.
For ITunes its separated by -Most Helpful -Most Favorable -Most Critical -Most Recent.
But also this uses a 5 star system, which I don’t know if I could see a lot of people liking.
I believe we should go back to what I think he was referring to the “old YouTube model” (aka Kongregate)
Nested replies with positive thumbs rating for exposure and creator/vip comments on top (perhaps pinnable too if there’s a limit)
I think comments should be entirely removed, in all honesty.
I’ve seen the bulk of “comments” just be used for spam and phishing. We’ve got groups and forums for things, not sure why we still have comments - especially on Catalog items where phishing occurs and I don’t see feedback as being a factor there.
What if we were made unable to copy text out of a comment?
This thread reminded me that people are most likely reporting bugs in my games’ comment sections. I haven’t checked those in two weeks. I’m tempted to do what ripull did (disable comments + redirect to a thread or messages) but seeing disabled comments gives the impression of “oh the place creator obviously copied it or couldn’t take the criticism”
We just need a new, manageable, nested, up-vote/down-vote comment system entirely. T-T (But that’s been iterated many times)
So, the point of my post: Thanks ripull for reminding me to read the feedback
I’d rater have how IOS appstore has the comments.
And they have to put in a comment on what’s good or bad, when wanting to vote.
I dissagreed that we should stop commets from being dissabled, but my idea over, would stop comment spam (to some level)
and if the owner of the game got somewhat delete power (not sure about the delete power, as they could delete the bad comments and get a good ratio) but stopping spamming to some level with my suggestion.
