how would i remove grass from some areas, but for others keep grass there without using the leafy grass material?
There currently isn’t a way to remove grass decoration in certain areas whilst keeping the underlying terrain grass, however, you can create something close to the effect using different materials. You can achieve this using the paint tool, the replace tool, etc.
Just color the material to emulate the grass’s color. For example, here’s what it looks like with mud or ground materials:
