There was a point where the #discussion category was called Development Discussion.
The #discussion category is meant for discussion about Roblox development. However it is constantly being used for general Roblox talk, which isn’t the purpose of the category, and that is what #lounge:roblox-discussion is for.
If we renamed the category it would make more sense and it would cause less of these posts to be created in that category.
Edit: you can also see the amount of misuse if you go on #lounge:roblox-discussion and look for posts that say “I have moved this to Lounge since this isn’t for discussion” by an editor most likely
@Astro_Plays1234 only regulars are allowed to create topics in Discussion. Members cannot in any way, shape or form.
@crunchbone please have a look at the Discussion category, and when you are done, tell me if you can say that again.
There was a post about “what is the marketplace fee”. That is in no way related to development. That is more of a general Roblox question.
And I forgot to mention, some users are even using it interchangeably with #help-and-feedback. I see questions that belong in the latter being posted in the former. These types of posts are more Q&A-based, where there is an answer then the thread is basically over. Discussions however have no right or wrong answer, they allow you to freely add your input.
I also think that #discussion should have the solution plugin disabled for this reason.
The person who posted the “what is the marketplace fee” probably did not know #help-and-feedback existed. Most people don’t know where to post things. Marketplace fee it for users that sell items like shirts, pants, game passes, etc.

I recall lodging a post of concern regarding the category’s name when it was changed (October 2019 structural changes). The reply I was given is that “Development Discussion on the Developer Forum is redundant”. You can check out the response, as well as my quoted reply, here:
It’s the expectation that topics created in the Discussion category pertain to (the art of) development on Roblox in some way. We also raised this internally not too long ago and had some details about the category changed to highlight this.
If a topic doesn’t fit in the category (off topic, inappropriate or minimal thread not invoking actual discussion or contributive value), feel free to flag the thread or message a Community Sage or Community Post Approval member regarding it.
Furthermore, slamming members is not appropriate, so it’d be appreciated if you could cool off with the ridiculing of their posting. I think there’s more civil ways to raise your discontent with the threads there.
@5th_Herrscher@IAmPinleon yea that topic has been leaking into any thread related to discussion, mine is requesting renaming the category of discussion, it, not about the changes made where members can post topics there now
I think I should now agree with this fact that discussion category is more like a ‘general’ category or ‘lounge’ category but it’s still not as chaotic as it can be. I also now would like to say Yes this should be reverted back to what it was.
