Suprisingly enough, the main factor that really stood out was the game icon. The game icon has to be appealing and gets the player’s attention.

My old game icon was this:

but I changed it to
CopyIcon
CopyIcon512×512 103 KB

When I had the old icon, the game wasn’t getting that many players. Most of time, it would be stuck at 0 players. When I changed it, it gained more players and an active community, which was surprising.
