Request taken username

something like this could easily be resolved by adding certain criteria that will make accounts “unresettable”
for example, getting builders club/premium.

My main account has been falsely terminated for nearly five years and I still send appeals about it regularly in attempts to recover it, so I think Roblox introducing something like this would be at best incredibly frustrating. I don’t think there should be any system that erases the data of terminated accounts as long as the moderation system remains without improvements.

I believe Roblox already does delete some data for terminated accounts after a certain period of time has passed which renders it unrecoverable, though doing this with usernames right now isn’t viable as we all know the state of Roblox moderation.

The criteria I came up with is solely for when Roblox makes improvements to their moderation (apologies, I should have mentioned that in my original post.)

Hope you get your main account back though.

Well, I hope that’s not true  I can still view my profile description and what groups I’m in through the Roblox APIs so I’ve always assumed they don’t delete data. Thank you, though.

I think you should read this resource: Appeal Your Content or Account Moderation – Roblox Support

It states that “An appeal must be submitted within 30 days of the moderation action affecting the account.

It is unlikely that you will get the account back after years of it being terminated. This might be outdated, I don’t know though.

Sorry.

It’s true, but it’s mostly a rule to get people to give up. I have met multiple people who got their falsely terminated accounts back months, even years after the fact. I did appeal within 30 days but they didn’t do anything about my account. Can’t hurt to keep trying, I guess.

I completely agree with this. I should be able to have my username be something that is currently taken by an inactive account from almost 20 YEARS AGO! (2007). If it’s only a few years I can understand people wouldn’t like that but nearly 20 years should be way more than enough to give me that username. And since certain Content Creators (KreekCraft, Mud, WeirdBlox) and even companies (Vans, Nickelodeon) are allowed to do this, so why not us “regular” people?

The only thing I’d change about this is that accounts that have been permanently banned for a certain amount of time should be able to have their usernames requested, not inactive accounts.

That’s why such companies have their trademarks as their usernames. As of star creators, they’re affiliated as they’re platform’s officially recognized creators, obviously Roblox in such case will give the creator their desired username.

A legal way for you or anyone else, to obtain a username on most of the social media platforms is just simply done by trademarking it, it’s effective.

I get the reasoning that old banned accounts often have good names, but I don’t think this is a good idea because it allows for impersonators. My original post is focusing on accounts that have no status or fame at all, but permanently banned players will likely have been known + have used their account quite a bit.

Minecraft deletes your account if it is inactive for 2 years. They only do it on some accounts though. Not sure what the requirement is.

bro thinks he’s entitled to the username rick because his name is rick

My reasoning is more due to this preventing issues where someone who may come back to Roblox someday essentially gets their name stolen. There’s still hundreds of thousands, if not millions of permanently banned accounts that weren’t known for anything or had any sort of fame/status. For example, I’d love to have the username “ditto”, but the account with that name is banned and has been for many many years. I personally just think it’s unfair on the original username owner to basically “steal” their name from them if their account isn’t banned.

I get that, but I suppose the issue is more from a technical view - how do you determine which banned accounts to allow names to be taken from vs. not? I’m not inherently against it, I just think allowing some banned accounts would make it more complicated to work out.

I think all permanently banned accounts should be allowed if they’ve been banned for at least a few years. Roblox could compile a list of blacklisted usernames that they wouldn’t want people using which would include potentially well-known or infamous users. I highly doubt there’s anymore than a few hundred well known usernames that are banned, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

It’s not really about them being well known or not, but if you’re using a banned player’s name, they’ll have had friends or people they talked to, even if they weren’t famous. It just complicates things a lot, and more warnings would have to be added so that people don’t get confused. Seems a lot easier to just leave banned players alone. It could be done right though and I’d be all for that

My case is that I simply want to take Xender, and stop being Xender2. That account has been 404 for a looonnnggg time let me tell you.

I think what would be a great idea is to have a system in place where one can submit a request for a username that has been maybe inactive for at least 5+ years or banned but only if they need it for social media presence to benefit smaller creators and include links so roblox staff can better understand the reason you should have a select handle, this already technically exists with star creators but it shouldn’t be limited to them only and this feature can be included in Roblox support because I’ve had this happen to me in the past, I did YouTube and everyone couldn’t find me very well cause of my particular YouTube name at the time.

This would be so nice to have.

Not the point bro… Also who said I wanted “Rick” as my username… The point of my message is that when someone has been inactive for almost 20 years there is no point to keep their account, disable it and allow someone else to take that username… Impersonation can’t be done either since after 20 years clearly nobody remembers that person
