That’s why such companies have their trademarks as their usernames. As of star creators, they’re affiliated as they’re platform’s officially recognized creators, obviously Roblox in such case will give the creator their desired username.
A legal way for you or anyone else, to obtain a username on most of the social media platforms is just simply done by trademarking it, it’s effective.
I get the reasoning that old banned accounts often have good names, but I don’t think this is a good idea because it allows for impersonators. My original post is focusing on accounts that have no status or fame at all, but permanently banned players will likely have been known + have used their account quite a bit.
My reasoning is more due to this preventing issues where someone who may come back to Roblox someday essentially gets their name stolen. There’s still hundreds of thousands, if not millions of permanently banned accounts that weren’t known for anything or had any sort of fame/status. For example, I’d love to have the username “ditto”, but the account with that name is banned and has been for many many years. I personally just think it’s unfair on the original username owner to basically “steal” their name from them if their account isn’t banned.
I get that, but I suppose the issue is more from a technical view - how do you determine which banned accounts to allow names to be taken from vs. not? I’m not inherently against it, I just think allowing some banned accounts would make it more complicated to work out.
I think all permanently banned accounts should be allowed if they’ve been banned for at least a few years. Roblox could compile a list of blacklisted usernames that they wouldn’t want people using which would include potentially well-known or infamous users. I highly doubt there’s anymore than a few hundred well known usernames that are banned, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
It’s not really about them being well known or not, but if you’re using a banned player’s name, they’ll have had friends or people they talked to, even if they weren’t famous. It just complicates things a lot, and more warnings would have to be added so that people don’t get confused. Seems a lot easier to just leave banned players alone. It could be done right though and I’d be all for that
I think what would be a great idea is to have a system in place where one can submit a request for a username that has been maybe inactive for at least 5+ years or banned but only if they need it for social media presence to benefit smaller creators and include links so roblox staff can better understand the reason you should have a select handle, this already technically exists with star creators but it shouldn’t be limited to them only and this feature can be included in Roblox support because I’ve had this happen to me in the past, I did YouTube and everyone couldn’t find me very well cause of my particular YouTube name at the time.
Not the point bro… Also who said I wanted “Rick” as my username… The point of my message is that when someone has been inactive for almost 20 years there is no point to keep their account, disable it and allow someone else to take that username… Impersonation can’t be done either since after 20 years clearly nobody remembers that person
