As a Roblox developer, it is currently too tedious to have the “Active / Inactive” button on the Games Page take you to the configuration page. Having the Active / Inactive button allowed you to quickly shut down all instances of a game without refreshing the page - this was critical if you had a game breaking bug you had to fix.
Currently, with the new method of it taking you to the Game Config. page, it causes unneeded extra time to be added to your workflow - and it can potentially confuse new & current developers, as it did me a few days ago when I first tried to shut down a game I had. It’s also a very bad user experience to have to wait 10 seconds for a page to load just so you can shut the game down in the case of an emergency. I don’t believe this was ever announced anywhere and went live without any headsup from Roblox Staff.
I would love to see the previous functionality of the Active / Inactive button be restored as it made more sense, and is also a better UX.
We considered doing this but decided against it for a few reasons:
In the future we will add more states than just “Public” and “Private” so a simple toggle will no longer be possible
Changing who can play a game is not to be taken lightly, so we want to create some friction in the process
We are moving away from the Develop page in favor of Studio’s Start Page. We will make it easy for you to change a game’s status from the start page at some point
I really hope the Create page is never taken away fully - there’s some functionality lacking in Studio, like being able to edit places directly instead of having to go to the config page or opening a place while you’re within the start page. It seems like there’s more hoops you have to jump through, which is damaging the UX in my opinion.
Studio’s start page still feels slow for me also - I’ve talked to staff about this in the past, and it seemed to fix it self after updating my drivers. Slow scrolling & poor button response is still present however.
There’s just some qualms I’ve had with Studio’s start page that have prevented me from actively using it over the Create page, an example being the one I edited into my previous post.
Still though, restoring the previous functionality along with a dialogue box with a warning, I think, would be much better than it taking you back to the Configuration page.
The biggest limitation of the studio start page for me right now is that I cannot open non-start places directly. This seriously impacts my workflow, as the start place to my game is just a lobby that is not edited frequently.
Thus, it is currently faster for me to favorite my “development place” of my game in Google Chrome and then hit the “edit” button from that page than it is to open the start place, wait for it to load, wait for the game browser to load, open the correct place and then close the start place.
I hope this is something that is planned to be addressed.
Will we able to edit place accessibility through mobile?
It’s already been made harder to access the Create/Develop page through mobile and it would’ve been unfortunate if it would’ve lost it’s functionality even further
We already have a laundry list of things we want to improve about the current Studio workflow before we eliminate web functionality. All of these things you mention are included.
