Roblox blocks NCS music?

Hello! I am here today to ask the devforum community why and is it normal for Roblox to block NCS (Noncopyrightedsounds)? If so, is there any other organization that creates songs like NCS that is not blocked by Roblox? Thanks!

NCS music is only copyright-free for use in social media postings, commercial use such as on Roblox is not eligible under their license. You will need to find completely free music, even for commercial use, or use the APM/Monstercat library provided by Roblox.

If shazam picks up the audio and has an answer, it’s more than likely not a safe bet. It might be OK to use the audio, but your case is getting moderated by an overprotective algorithm that requires an appeal! @Ty_Scripts mentioning their reply above, make sure the audio is cleared for commercial use, with no strings attached… Revenue only for the community using the audio, and no crediting the owner required.

So is there any chance of getting semi-decent songs that Roblox moderation won’t take down?

Getting it from anywhere that isn’t made in-house, more than likely not, it drove me to start composing, and it’s great! I highly recommend trying it out, you’ll surprise yourself after some dedication!!

But social media posting WITH Adsense and sponsorships on is technically commercial. For example on YouTube, people use NCS music in their videos and then they make money from the ads, isn’t that also against their license?
I just wish to know it better, not to argue at all!

So I have a question. If the audio does bypass and has been credited to the artist, will Roblox take down the audio?

That’s where it gets REALLY finicky, this third party, this third party, this third party, eventually it becomes a matter of discretion, from the producers, to moderate or allow what’s going on. Knowing the terms of use for the specific item in question is key! (And not always clear!)

Providing proof in the appeal email is a requirement, it almost definitely will happen, and I’ll explain why. Users report any and everything, it’s what they do… And Roblox doesn’t have alotted time to pre-screen moderation most of the time, because they have to moderate millions of reports quickly. You’re completely fine now, but in the event it gets moderated, have the audio’s terms of use ready to present!

That’s what I was thinking, but they allow monetization of YouTube/Twitch videos with their music. I guess they assume most people using it won’t make much money, whereas many people using their music commercially are likely to make lots of money and therefore should pay royalties.

According to their terms, Roblox fits within their Platform definition. The finicky part is, they can withdraw at any time without notice, meaning, they can pursue litigation swiftly and effectively. This all begins with Roblox choosing to trust a party, and since moderation is also finicky, will require a good fair lobbying amongst creator and moderation, and an ultimite decision on Roblox’s part.

That isn’t true, Roblox games are used primarily for commercial gain and we get profits from things other than ad revenue…

Thus, do not use NCS in any Roblox games.

I think what they mean by this is that you can’t make people pay for a video that has NCS in it or you can’t make people pay for the sound.

It doesn’t seem logical to let people use your sound/s that are copyright free, but take money away from them. It’s pretty much like normal copyright at that point.

I could be confused on this as-well, because you word it like if you use their sounds you don’t make any money. (Which can’t be correct :/)

Yes, I’m probably wording it badly because that’s not what I’m saying. You will make revenue if you use their sounds on a social media platform where the only revenue is ad revenue. Roblox is not one of these, so you are legally not allowed to use their music on a Roblox game.

My thought was we’re not the corporation, Roblox is the Platform and the experiences are UGC, but revenue is directly exchanged in DevEx, so it’s questionable if its commercial gain or not… This has me thinkin’ (David Baszucki did say that groups are like corporations) But under what legal means??? Puzzling… Second edit: Yes, it’s commercial gain to use DevEx. Case solved by @Ty_Scripts

Yes, and when they sue, they’ll sue Roblox (and not the game “owner”). Because defaultly all creations on Roblox is legally owned by Roblox corp.
