Roblox Community Rules Update

This argument implies that you shouldn’t:

  1. Use asset requires for assets you don’t own ever
  2. Use any asset which can modify its own behaviour on its own ever (e.g. by checking if you own an asset)
  3. Use studio plugins

As for the other justification around personal information, this implies that you as a developer should not ever use any third party service or tool developed by anyone else in your game solely because it may collect “personal” information (or change its behaviour without your explicit control)

Sounds good! Thanks for keeping roblox a safe environment!

@Kairomatic Does that mean letting players enter custom decal IDs / audio IDs to be shown with-in a server is no longer allowed since we don’t maintain ‘control’.

I’m 1000% sure that I’m the reason for the PolicyService update. I contacted the Exploit group or whatever it’s called asking if I can log a bunch of player data, including language data and whatnot. My question is:

For moderation & alt account purposes, can I store player language data, country code, and ExternalLink References (ie Discord, Twitch, Twitter, etc;) (specifically if they’re allowed to view said references? I know there’s a general rule of thumb that if you have to ask, it’s not allowed, but I’m genuinely curious. What can I store?

The competition is as an advertiser. If there is an 3rd party advertising company running inside of games, it hurts Roblox in that it devalues the Roblox company advertising options (sponsored ads, banners, etc).

However, Roblox doesn’t give us an official way to do this.

How is this ad-specific? Roblox has a feature for running code that others have uploaded—requiring by id. This has the same threat of potentially being used to track users and show assets.

Further to this, what about if my experience allows users to build content which I don’t have full control off. For example if I have a house-building game, players could lay out the walls to read “core games rule”. I guess that the intention is not to prohibit building games such as these, but some clarity here would be really useful.

Roblox need to provide clarity on these rules, for these situations.

@Abcreator If you’re doing active moderation on that type of stuff you’re probably fine. It’s technically in “your control” because you can have a report feature in-game for notifiying your game’s mods about inappropriate content.

I think Roblox needs to clarify on what they mean by “upload.” To “upload an ad” can be interpreted as deliberately placing an ad, or the user actively sending out an decal ad for moderation review.

If you live in the EEA or the UK, you can always request a copy of your personal data here: roblox@gdpr-rep.com

Exactly.

If the code sharing features are a security problem for the reasons described, the only solution is to shut all of those features down.

Roblox isn’t shutting the code sharing features down though. They are just adding a clause that allows them to take out specific use cases they don’t like in the name of security.
