Yeah, it almost seems like a mistake to me. Roblox’s Top Dev program holds the top 250 project owners based on engagement and earnings and a few other things, and it’d be weird for them to use that same terminology in the messaging they sent out to 5000 people, especially considering this chart from Roblox’s SEC filing.
This listing determines, if i’m understanding it right, in recent years where it’s been easier and more accessible than ever to earn money off of Roblox, only 5087 people earned more than US $1000.
From this, my understanding is that ‘top developer’ doesn’t seem to mean anything in relation to personal earnings or engagement, but likely some mix of data resulting larger pool of developers that 5000 were selected from.
All of these should be toggleable and most disabled by deafult. Especially “Spawn with Friends”. It could ruin current games by letting people teleport to each other. Emote bar could ruin the asthetic of lots of games, and dont even get me started on voice chat.
To be honest I would love to use special voice Chat but not to mention some people can actually swear on voice chat or just be toxic to other people and it’s in Beta so it’s not like anyone can swear or troll.
AFAIK Capture is only available on certain devices, I personally don’t have it as I work and play on a Mac. I currently need to press Cmd + Shift + 3 to take screenshots.
Overall, there should be no interruption to gameplay (opening the in-game menu, pressing wonky key combos) to take a screenshot or be prompted to take a screenshot. I am glad to hear now that Roblox is open to developing upon this system.
Loving the voice chat so far besides the few in-game screaming at eachother. Thankfully we can mute others individually, I really like that.
I’m not sure if it’s just a me thing or not, but I can’t change or see my in/output devices and most of the time I have to change one or both of them, depending on the game I open (outside of Roblox). Other than that, this is pretty cool and I appreciate you guys for allowing us to test this!
I just tested the Spatial Voice and I got to admit it works much better than I thought it would. I like the microphone chat bubbles. It makes muting people (or yourself) very simple and intuitive. Sound is clear and positioning works perfectly.
I am looking forward to players using it in my game, especially in races, where keyboard typing is tricky.
I’m pretty sure someone else would have asked this but will any software that plays sound through your microphone pick up? (Voicemod, Soundpad)
If so, this could be a serious issue where copyrighted material is played in games which could probably lead to something serious down the line.
Virtual communication will also be subject to the same forms of natural moderation that exist in the real world. To continue with our restaurant example, if you yell at someone during that public meal, it’s likely that people around you will ask you to quiet down or, depending on how offensive you are, you’ll be asked to leave. There will be similar consequences on Roblox: our community will be able to self-regulate and flag a user that is not adhering to community standards, and that user may be removed from an experience or lose speaking privileges. The metaverse is an extension and augmentation of reality and the standards for civility that we hold ourselves to in the real world must carry over to the digital. – The Future of Communication in the Metaverse - Roblox Blog
A quick technical question, what bitrate will voice input be locked to? Would it also be possible to toggle the quality of audio (96kbps - 320kbps) in settings, and will that option be locked to premium users only?
Like what he said, could I also have access to it? Unless its automatic choosing. If not I will just wait until it expands. I have been excited for this a while.
Already seen a clip of someone blasting inappropriate audio thru it, which is embarrassing considering it’s an exclusive test that someone more mature could have been invited to instead.
