Roblox Community Space: A Vision of Social Experiences on Roblox

We need an option to disable this in our games when it releases.

The community space has a few cool features, but I don’t think the community is ready for some of them.

As @ItsKoiske pointed out, there is already issues with this voice chat system and I think it shouldn’t be added at all, not a lot of people are going to use it due to having to be 18+ and submit your ID, which many people are skeptical of. People are just going to use existing voice chatting platforms.

The idea sounds cool, but it just isn’t going to work.

I love this update! (kinda reminds me of meepcity a little though)

This also sounds great but how is this going to work if two of your friends are in the same server but they’re at opposite ends of the map?

This feature has been at Roblox events for a while now, but I personally do not want to see this change. The emote wheel is already great, and having an emote bar possibly suggests the removal of the inventory

Not much to say, but is there going to be a report feature for inappropriate notes if there isn’t already?

This sounds like another great feature, but will this save images to our Roblox folders? It would be nice to have a Roblox screenshot without the topbar being in the way

I hate how this is worded. When I was messaged that this was a DEVELOPER BETA I was assuming that it meant I could implement it into my game. But it seems moreso, that I am just capable of… using it in this preview game? I am so confused. Do not call it a DEVELOPER beta if it does not actually have anything to do with what you as a creator are currently developing. Enabling me as a player to use this tool is not the same as enabling me as a developer to use this tool. Please clarify and re-write the message being sent out, or something. I got very excited and it took me 2-3 minutes to realize what this actually meant for developers trying to develop; nothing, right now.

The word “Developer” should not even come up. You are distributing the feature to top developers, but only for use as a player, with no actual ability to implement this as a developer, correct me if I am wrong. At least that is what this sounds like.

How the voice chat system works is that the developers need to enable the feature and make it voice chat friendly. This preview is a showcase of what it can do and help the dev decide if its worthwhile or not. They also can trust top developers to not do anything inappropriate with it while it’s being worked on too as they can feel the consequences of their actions more badly than a regular joe that would just make a new account and more on. This is why it’s a developer beta. Instead of getting upset about it, try to be more hyped about it as your favorite game could feature it soon.

I barely remember this but I think voice chat will go 13+ soon.

tell me if I’m wrong

It could go either way. It was supposed to originally be 18+ but the test could skew towards moving it back to the original plan.

Really Interesting, I cannot wait to try it out

I’m a developer, not a player. I was hyped about it because my games could feature it soon, and, with how the initial message is worded, I assumed that I could use it right now. But as far as I can tell it is just a developer preview in the sense that you get to see how it works from a player’s perspective and… that’s it.

It’s a player preview given out to developers. It is not really a “developer beta” like claimed in any way shape or form, yes? Unless I am mistaken?

It is definitely useful to get to try it out in the testing place early, and relevent somewhat to development, but in more of a “gaining perspective” type of way. When roblox talks about Betas, I typically expect to see new opt-in features pop up in studio, etc. This is my first time being invited to something like this, and it’s just embarassing how long it took me too realize “Developer Beta” had nothing to do with developing using this system.

This is a different type of beta that could actually hurt roblox if given to the wrong people. This test is for optimizing it on the engineering backend as well as showcasing it. You just need to be patient.

Patience is not the issue, I just think it was a very unusually worded thing. “Developer beta” still does not feel like it fits this. This is a showcase for developers, a preview, a player’s perspective. \

Maybe it’s just semantics. I guess so. It just made my head spin when I was told I had access to a developer beta for something I could not develop in beta.

Not sure why you’re telling me to be patient. Think you’ve missed the point of my post, where I am specifically mentioning the oddity that is the message being sent out to developers & how it is being titled/framed

No big deal, I guess. Just irked me a lot. I was about to hop into studio and try it out until I realize it was a player’s preview, for developers rather than a developer beta

Also the fact, mobile players can’t screenshot.

How would voice chat even be moderated?

That would be because it is. Not only could people swear constantly, but you must have a verified phone number on your account, thus encouraging SIM Swapping. I think that Roblox should have thought this over a bit more; Especially the ‘Verified phone number’ part.

What does this icon mean?

My mic is there in settings, and have tried all the different inputs, but this icon does not go away

They can, actually. iOS users can simply hold down both the home screen button and the power button for a second and then release them to take a screenshot, and with Android it’s a similar method.

Yet, this method is not a well known way for many users (for example, I didn’t know about this)

lobbies use waypoints so if you miss one and die you will simple be taken back to the 1st step

I think a lot of people who have used a mobile device for a long time would know how to screenshot their device’s screen, since it’s a useful feature and easy to do.

I do find the Photo Booth to be rather pointless, though. It doesn’t present any special use since it’s basically just a background with the player sitting inside of the booth, (and would the screenshot mechanic from Hack Week be that hard to implement?) anybody could remake this exact scenario. What makes it less worthwhile is the fact that CoreGUIs are still visible in the screenshots that you take, so the Photo Booth is more so just an activity than a Social Feature like the OP is saying.

Solid arguments there, I imagine it would be no different then people by passing the text chat already, but there’s a video on twitter showing how simple it is to mute a specific person or the entire server.

It’s the same as when kids voice chat on PSN or Xbox Live in my opinion. Roblox wouldn’t be responsible as they have an age requirement to use the feature and a system to help moderate it, so if a kid was lying their age and had a negative encounter on a game, it’s their parents fault, They just gotta take some responsibility over their kids.
