Roblox has recently fixed the keyboard detection, but the mouse is still not functional like on desktop. You can‘t scroll with the wheel thing (I don‘t know what it‘s called, sorry!), you need to click and drag like with a finger. You can‘t zoom in|out the camera either. You can rotate it, but the UI joystick shows up as if you were using a finger.
It happens 100% of the time, in every experience. To reproduce, simply connect a mouse and a keyboard to an iOS device and join any experience.
Expected behavior
ScrollingFrames scrolling down|up when using the scroll wheel in an UI
Camera zooming in/out when not in an UI
The buttons not appearing when you rotate the camera.
Thanks for reporting this behavior. Yes, it can definitely be a frustrating behavior. Unfortunately it’s not a bug, but rather how iOS treats mice and trackpads by default (i.e. as accessibility devices).
We will work on adding proper mice support in the future.
We rolled out mouse support for iPads today. We unfortunately couldn’t 100% match the desktop behavior, so please give it a try and let us know what issues do you have.
mouse support seems pretty good, only problems aside from my hardware limitations are: 1: i’ve noticed is that pinching on a trackpad like on mac to zoom the camera in doesn’t work, however doing the two finger scroll like gesture to move the camera around works great. 2: assistive touch being on seems to mess up mouse support even though having assistive touch on for Minecraft on ipados still works similarly to desktop, still don’t see any support on iPhone for mice/trackpad yet though but i wouldn’t be surprised if that’s coming too because keyboard support was added to iPhone shortly after iPads got keyboard support last year.
Regarding trackpad support. Trackpad gestures on iOS doesn’t work quite the same way as on macOS, so we will continue looking into improving that. For now, the only real workaround is to use I/O keys to zoom in & out.
Assistive touch is an important accessibility feature that produces touch events instead of mouse clicks, so in order for mouse to fully work with Roblox, you have to turn that off. We’ll continue looking into that and once we find a good way to combine our mouse support with assistive touch without breaking both our features and iOS expectations, we will happily implement that solution. Without going deep into details, for instance, Roblox allows to customize its mouse icon for any game, but when assistive touch is enabled, you cannot hide system pointer that easily. So mouse icon customization will stop working entirely.
when they said u couldnt 100% match the desktop behaviour does it also mean that some games in roblox with the shift lock switch enabled just doesnt work for some reason as i got access to the mouse on ipados and in some games the shift lock switch is not working while on pc it is despite the setting for it being on
I cannot say for sure what happens at every game, but some developers might explicitly disable shift lock when TouchEnabled is on. By default Roblox doesn’t prevent you from doing that.
I’m curious why it wont work on iphones because Minecraft pocket edition on an iPhone (with assitive touch on) seems to pan the camera just from mouse movement (not even holding a mouse button and it doesn’t stop the panning at borders either, is there possibily an api that does this, i know even Minecraft seems to struggle with capturing the mouse a lot even on ipados but on iPhone despite there being a lack of mouse lock the camera will still pan from my experience. Also i noticed a problem in my game with rendering the custom mouse cursor on ipados even without assistive touch on, this is what it should look like, i dont have the problem in studio or on the desktop client (i made a custom system for a custom hover hand icon so its not quite the main cursor)
Follow up, ui clicking with mice on pocket edition on iphone works flawlessly now, also having perform touch gestures off in game seems to make it so that block placing/breaking works like on a desktop, so there’s no doubt the input path can hook up to iphones, is the only thing holding it back being not being able to hide the pointer easily? Maybe mouse support on iPhone could only be enabled if the client detects that setting as on and if not then it could treat it as a normal finger because it cannot receive desktop style mouse inputs?
Internally, Roblox doesn’t differentiate between iOS and iPadOS regarding mouse handling. If Apple provides feature parity across both platforms, it should work on both devices. We’ll definitely look into this.
