Roblox fails to load after driver update

Hi, ever since I updated my GPU drivers today, Roblox has failed to launch whenever I start the game and freezes on this screen (shown below) and I have to force quit the task to close it.

I have tried many solutions. Such as:

  • Deleting Roblox and reinstalling
  • Deleting all cache and files related to the Roblox Player
  • Many computer restarts
  • Rolling back drivers to older versions
  • Deleting old versions of drivers
  • Running Roblox in compatibility mode, administrator, and disabling fullscreen optimizations
  • Running “sfc /scannow” in command prompt
  • Running Roblox on a different Windows profile
  • Checking for Windows updates
  • Reinstalling DirectX

I have an AMD 6650xt GPU and a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU

None of these seemed to have worked, but I know that the only time Roblox does actually run is when I disable the display drivers entirely. If anyone knows any other solutions I may have missed I would appreciate knowing them. Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller? Sharing external links is I think not allowed so I can’t send its link however with some research you can find the original.

Hello @GoobsterX!

Be sure to do this and let me know what happened!

Please ensure that all Roblox files in the AppData directory are removed. To do this:

Uninstall Roblox from your computer
Open the Command Prompt. You can open it by pressing Win+R > Type ““CMD”” > Press Enter.

Type in the following commands:

cd AppData\Local (then press enter)
rmdir /s Roblox (then press enter)
Enter ““y”” when asked to answer (then press enter)
Restart your computer
Reinstall Roblox

I hope I have helped!

Hello. Thank you for responding. I have used Display Driver Uninstaller just now to uninstall my display drivers. After using it as recommended, I reinstalled previous versions of my display drivers via the AMD website. Unfortunately, it did not work to solve my issue. I have also used the “AMD Cleanup Utility” to uninstall AMD Adrenaline (the software) and to uninstall the drivers. But it also did not work.

Thanks for the response. I have done this just now but unfortunately I am still facing the issue I had previously.

Have you tried removing the driver with DDU and then installing an older version? It’s not the same thing as rolling the driver version back.
Also make sure that you are using WHQL versions of the drivers.

I used DDU to uninstall the drivers and then downloaded an installation of version 23.8.1 (The version I had prior to updating drivers when the issue happened) of my drivers from the AMD website and downloaded them. I have also tried version 23.7.1 of my drivers

Thank you for your feedback! You use Roblox through Roblox Player or the Microsoft Store?

Does it happen with any other game? You can try launching the app with less core and memory clock, this can get done with an overclocking software like Afterburner. Using software modifications with hardware might have risks and make sure that you understand them before using it, also Afterburner has like tons of virus clones so you should only install from the official source. -100 to core and -300 to memory should be good for testing.

I use the Roblox Player but I have attempted using the Microsoft store version and it works perfectly fine with no issues.

I have attempted to launch multiple different games but they still produce the same fault.
After using MSI Afterburner with my Core Clock -100 (2714 original, 2600 new), I still experience the same issue. My memory clock was already set to the lowest value (2188) when I launched the program.

I know that AMD cards have various issues with drivers but these generally fix the problem. Can you also try increasing the power limit a bit? Not the voltage just the power limit.

Yeah. It did not seem to help by increasing the power limit. Maybe in this case if there aren’t many other options left I should wait it out for an update by Roblox or AMD that hopefully will solve this.

If I were you I’d try my luck with submitting a bug report to @ Bug_Support (without the space). I really doubt that this is a Roblox issue but you can try.

The issue has seemed to resolve itself on its own. Not sure what happened but I joined a game and it just worked. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice.

I found out the root cause of the issue. I am not sure why it happens but I own a Logitech G29 Steering wheel. If I connect it into my computer, my Roblox experiences the issue where it freezes upon launch. If I unplug it and launch Roblox, it works perfectly fine.
