Firstly let me just state I am not implementing this feature, I have thought of a better monetisation alternative I know is within TOS - this topic is made out of interest.
The dropper game, a classic arcade machine which is one of the most iconic kid-themed gambling machines around today, with the legitimate ones putting your fate in the hands of physics and not an algorithm. My question is after This Post on the TOS about gambling on roblox made how this system would slide into the TOS and hopefully expose some grey areas.
Most of us know one of these devices as something like this
a ball goes in the top, falls down and whatever box it lands in determines your win / loss.
Im interested if something like this (IF MADE PURELY ON PHYSICS) would be allowed on roblox since its theoretically impossible to give chances of it landing in each slot. Assume in this given scenario the machine is robux only and costs 10 robux a go, the prizes is in game coins.
Oh, FYI I just grabbed the image of google, I have no idea if the guy in the photo did something bad, sorry if I accidentally offfend anyone for any reason.
Gambling is against the rules, but there are a few factors which determine whether or not a chance reward system is in violation.
GalaxyGourmet is correct, the Roblox Community Rules specifically state that casino style games involving Robux (and by extension, in-game currencies purchased with it) or real money are considered gambling, so your concept for such a game to ācost 10 robux a goā is already a no-go.
The method of deciding the odds is not considered gambling, so dropper games are totally fine.
This change in rules only refers to loot box mechanics (correct me if Iām mistaken) that reward a non-currency virtual prize, as they exist on an extremely fine line of being considered gambling. You cannot state the odds of a casino style game involving Robux or real money to prevent it from being considered gambling.
ah, k as someone who has only applied this kid-targeted āgamblingā to pet egg systems I was unaware that the official guidelines were only allowing loot box system to be allowed!
Out of interest because of the system im currently planning on implementing, im planning on having a daily reward wheel which while the chances are fixed I will show it as a percent very visibly on the screen, would I be allowed to sell re-spins. I feel this is similar to loot boxes and pet eggs but as you said this Is a very fine line / grey area of both law and roblox TOS.
Wouldnāt ask as iām aware this is offtopic for the post, however since im now aware of some new rules id rather confirm this is ok.
Ye I plan on āgreying outā prizes which have already been won to incentivise buying more spins, And Iām starting to see the logic behind currency not being allowed as a reward although that does thawt some of my prize ideas.
Gambling isnāt allowed in Roblox as the ESRB (I think thatās what it is) would raise the rating for the platform. Making this free of charge or a daily reward thing is perfectly fine, but anything that charges the user to play it is simply not allowed. Also, the person in the image is Admiral George Dowey, he was the admiral of the United States Navy, if that clears your confusion.
