Roblox is blocked in the Russian Federation

In Russia, you can no longer log in to Roblox: the Studio, website, and app are not working (that is, EVERYTHING)
Most likely, the block was created by the state regulator Roskomnadzor.
I created this post because I think this post is incorrect, since all of Roblox is currently down, not just Studio.

Expected behavior

I would like to know if you will do anything to remove the lock in the Russian Federation.

I know how to circumvent this ban, if you are from the Russian Federation and want to discuss this topic, you can go here. I want to get an official response from the Roblox staff.

At present, there is more detailed information about why ROBLOX was blocked in the Russian Federation:

Monitoring of Roblox has repeatedly confirmed the inability of the internal moderation system to ensure 100% safety of the content appearing on the platform.

According to the latest information, Roskomnadzor itself decided to do this because, in their opinion, ROBLOX is completely failing to ensure the safety of children on the platform. They take into account that there is a lot of inappropriate content circulating and no one is blocking it.

  • This is a rather skeptical opinion, as the government does not provide clear motives for solving this problem amid the fact that ROBLOX has tried and is trying to protect children and ban illegal content (by setting age restrictions and intensively moderating various content).

The only thing we can hope for now is that the two sides will reach agreements and resolve their issues.

According to some rumors, we may have to use a totalitarian VPN, and no bypass tools such as Zapret will help (referring to a source such as Instagram, where such a block was introduced).

Roskomnadzor explained the ban by citing the platform’s use for distributing “extremist” materials and “LGBT propaganda”, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia.

It’s not the moderation fault. Russia doesn’t care about it at all. It’s very normal practice of Russia to ban stuff made by Western countries.

Roblox absolutely had no chances to stay in Russia officially due to Russian government isolating internet more and more, just like China.

I’m posting this comment to let you guys know that it’s simply not the fault of Roblox.

it is also very likely Russian Govt. will demand bizarre requirements if Roblox really wants to be unblocked in Russia.

Half of the reasons cited by major Russian news outlets are ecologically confused.

You are right in saying that Roskomnadzor is an illegal document that allows them to block everything Western and everything they consider a threat. It has long been known that this official regulatory authority in the field of communications has been given full access to decide everything.

According to the РБК news channel, the following statements were made:

Children in the game are subjected to sexual harassment, they are tricked into sending intimate photos, and they are persuaded to engage in lewd acts and violence — after all, Roblox is popular with pedophiles, who meet minors directly in the game’s chat rooms and then move on to real life.

I think this is too serious an explanation of the overall situation. One could ask a philosophical question: Why don’t parents discipline their children and control them at such a young age?

Any child today can create an account with a birth year that is many times older than their actual age, and after a while be deceived because they are literally a child.

And in the end, if we are honest, ROBLOX currently has problems with this, with games such as “Radgoll Engine,” where after spending five minutes on Russian-language servers with voice chat, you can realize the FULL seriousness of the situation. People easily imitate conversations with obscene slang, various genre themes, inappropriate and violating ROBLOX ToS.

As for LGBT+ promotion, the only thing ROBLOX can do is try to use its filters to completely remove any games of this genre from regions in Russia. For example, I am from the Russian Federation, and this is what I get when I search for LGBT:

But I am sure that this is not enough; there are many discreditable violations, especially since they have already been announced by the Russian government.

Attempts to control all this are much more difficult than they seem. ROBLOX Corp. is doing its best, but all efforts appear to be in vain.

It’s really deeper than that and while it may seem reasonable from them, it’s really just another ban to isolate their people from internet. They will seek anything bad about platform and use it as “reasonable” ban.

Don’t try to explain anything logically. The government in Russia is simply tightening the screws on people and banning everything it can reach. Their goal is to shut down the internet the same way China did. And they come up with any reasons they can to justify it

Yeah, there is no logical explaination.
This is just internet isolation and conversion of the russian net into intranet
I can’t find any other good reason behind this.

To what extent are the United Arab Emirates and Turkey predestined for this? Despite the fact that the former has only imposed minor restrictions.

I definitely understand what you’re talking about, because I live where all this happens in one way or another.
But, with that in mind, Steam should have been blocked long ago too (although there were complaints, they quickly disappeared as they were resolved).
And besides, if we approach this matter logically, ROBLOX is not some kind of mass media platform like YouTube, where they say that YouTube has outdated servers LOL

It’s clear that these are all stories to control us more, but still… Let’s think about it this way, we have no other choice.

The silence of Roblox is killing me. It was the same with Guilded, but the problem is that Guilded blocked the Russians, and not our regulators strangled the messenger.

Well, as far as I know, you can’t buy games or add funds to your Steam balance directly. I don’t know why it’s not banned yet. Online, it says that Steam removed the materials the Russian government required. Still, this might happen in the future though
