roblox: “linux marketshare is too small. we will not support the steam deck or native linux installs.”
also roblox: “lets add support for the ROG ally!!”
i know the point of my reply is that for years (10+) we’ve been told “no, linux will not be added because the marketshare is far too small” when the steam deck is a WAY bigger handheld than the ROG ally
the “you’re not just ____, you’re ___” is a hallmark that this marketing post was entirely written by ChatGPT
i’m usually against calling random posts AI-generated but this is pretty unambiguous
edit: as for the announcement itself, this doesn’t actually really do much for developers. there will be a tiny increase in players but relative to main platforms i doubt major devs will see a change in statistics
I doubt there was much if any work to be done to add Roblox support since this is already running Windows 11. It makes more sense for Roblox to be added to this because of how easy it is to do it. This is more of a PR announcement for something that took a pretty low amount of effort just because the integrations are already there.
If Roblox can be added to all of these platforms, it can’t be that hard to maintain Linux support…? The main reason I don’t wanna switch is because I want to keep developing on Roblox.
I hope this isn’t controversial to say re: “why no Steam Deck/Linux support” comments on here that a a proper Windows handheld device partnered with Microsoft has the potential to replace the Steam Deck as the popular choice for people that want a hassle-free gaming handheld experience (with desktop experience included.) It makes sense Roblox would partner with Microsoft and the Xbox team for something like this. It really sucks that Linux is being left in the dust, though.
