Roblox Item Owners API not working? (Not allowing access)

Okay so recently I wanted to see something regarding the Owners list of an specific item I own too. Little did I know that the owners list api doesn’t work anymore with non-limited items. Here are some screenshots.

Some random item I found… Owners Tab not working aka Loading Forever…

Is this intentional or? Since the limited item’s owners api work just fine…

Yeah just checked I see the same response with my account. Thought sites like Rolimons would be affected but apparently collectible items can still be used on that api - see here:
asset id: 148791559

So I guess Roblox does not allow people to fetch owners for normal items. No idea why perhaps the endpoint is expensive to maintain.

Yeah, all this is pretty weird.

I guess we will see what will happens with extentions like Roblox+, one of their main features is the item Owner list for every item on roblox, with this they will be limited only to limited items…

Yeah, ROBLOX disable it due to the fact that some developers didnt want to see how much Robux they made off their items.

Seems like it was done intentionally to protect users privacy. As long as there’s reason to be able to see owners of limited items (for trading for example), I don’t see any reason why you’d need to see list of owners of non-limited items (including free items). You can also view list of owners when checking your own assets. I believe that’s why the error refers to “permission”.

That’s fair. They have already disabled sales count. It could be bypassed by using the api to search owner, now it can’t.

I remember a Roblox Engineer talking about this.

They disabled the sale count because of privacy reasons (some developers didn’t want their earnings to be public). Roblox has probably been getting reports from players/developers that they did not want other users to see their Roblox item, because with BTRoblox, you could see that the user had that item, even though his inventory was private. That is probably why they disabled the API for that.

That’s actually pretty reasonable, to be honest, in the last 2 weeks or so, I have a lot of people saying and making therads how UGC creators earn this much, and their sales look botted, this and that and this and that… Basically trying to lower the UGC Creator’s value, to lower their reputation, basically some pretty dumb stuff that is becoming off-topic for this thread.
