TL;DR | roblox studio update deleted some photos and videos I had in content folder
So I am making a TV ui, and I put a folder of videos to test inside of the content folder of the current (not now) version of Studio. Just earlier I went to the media folder again, but for some reason, nothing is there. There’s a couple folders, but that’s only some inside of the video resizer. But there are literally no files, as the whole media folder is 0 bytes large. And unfortunately, I didn’t think they would just get randomly deleted by an update, so I didn’t back them up anywhere. These are photos and videos I’ve had laying around my computer, and while I might be able to find them on the internet again, I’m mainly just mad that they were just deleted. But is there a way to get them back?
I tried searching the entire roblox folder for any of the names but nothing came up, even Recuva had nothing.
This is why you don’t put items in a folder that’s controlled by another program.
When a program updates it’ll possibly overwrite every single folder or file that it installed on your computer. If it’s been overwritten or emptied there’s probably no chance of getting the files back.
The Roblox updater/launcher removes or recreates a lot of files and folders in the areas of the filesystem where Roblox data is stored. Most similar update programs do the same, though it would be nice if it could prompt the user if it found files it didn’t put there in a previous update. I would have suggested file recovery or ‘undeletion’ tools, though if Recuva came up with nothing then that likely means the media file data was overwritten when the update occurred.
You could try other file recovery programs though I don’t know of any in particular. Data loss sucks, keep backups.
