ROBLOX lagging on OS X High Sierra

Moved to client bugs because it seems like I’m not the only one who is experiencing this

Is anyone else experiencing this? I played around with some settings so I’m not sure if is my fault or that ROBLOX has not updated it’s build etc.

What type of Apple device do you use? I have experienced slowdowns myself going from Mavericks to El Capitan on MacBooks from 2009, and it was mainly due to large amounts of old, incompatible programs in the background.

Screen Shot

This is not slowdowns, this is literally dropping to 0 fps and having sticky keys.

Edit:
Interestingly however, when in the lobby of this game:

I experience lag (as with all others), but when I go into the actual game (clicking the “Dragon Battle” button), there is no lag. The same can’t be said when returning to the original game via in game buttons however.

Edit #2:
It seems like only certain actions trigger this behavior. Moving my player lags, whereas just moving the camera does not. This might be why the game about did not lag for me (Custom humanoids?)

Roblox on level 5/10 graphics is laggier on high Sierra than level 10/10 on Sierra

And this is why I never update my devices until I’m sure it’s playing ball with other softwares lol

For people who have this problem, please attach a profiler dump.

(Cmd+Fn+F6, select Dump → 128 frames, this should save a file named microprofile-…html to your home folder - upload it here)

I could not upload the file here because of the file type restriction, but here is a download link:

I had to jump and move around with my humanoid to get this lag to occur. When being idle, barely any deviation occurs.

Thanks!

A few more questions:

  • Does this happen in Studio, or just Client?
  • Does it happen in any game? For example, this one Sandbox - Roblox?
  • Does it happen in fullscreen mode, windowed mode, or both?
  • Do you have an external monitor attached? If so, is the Roblox window on that monitor or not?
  • Do you have other software running as it happens (including Studio)? If yes, can you try closing everything else - even the web browser - to try to help isolate this?
  • Just to clarify - if you don’t jump or move around, the profiler shows stable flat line?
  • This happens in studio as well as client
  • It happens in any game, including the game you linked
  • It happens in both fullscreen and windowed mode
  • I do use an external monitor that mirrors my built-in monitor, however it still occurs when I disconnect it
  • Even when I close all other software it still occurs
  • And yea, if my humanoid does not move around, the profile shows a flat, stable line.

In Studio, you can try to change Settings → Rendering → Graphics Mode to OpenGL; does this fix the issue in Studio or does it still persist?

Do you need to jump to reproduce the issue, or just to move around?

I’ll try this when I get home from school, I know that I’m using Metal right now and I think moving causes it too, jumping just makes it worse.

Do you have the same problem as the OP where walking/jumping causes significant frame spikes, or are you referring to something else? Mind uploading a profile capture?

It seems like the issue is resolved for me. Not really sure what caused it, maybe the new ROBLOX update, but it does not occur anymore.

same as @acreol, whatever update was today seems to have made it stop
