There are also more settings
It took 36secs. to apply to the rl mesh but the preview was rly fast there.
Was there an announcement?
Where did you find this, I only know the unofficial one named Taqla
It’s a beta feature that was added with the latest release notes (616).
I have it enabled in Beta Features but I can’t find any button to open it, how do I use it?
The only bad thing about it is the daily limit to previews and applied textures to meshes
You can find it in the VIEW tab!
Uh, there is one? Didnt saw that
Not going to lie, this is pretty terrible lol
No PBR and the texture is so low quality. It looks fine from like 5+ studs away but up close, for example an FPS rig, the gun model looks like a 2012 mobile game
This texture would look just fine if it were 2014-2016, but no. This AI has set the bar pretty low.
Surprisingly it did match the details of the gun properly such as the stock, barrel etc but the quality is just not there sadly.
The prompt I used was “BAR WW2 gun covered in shiny diamonds”
The texture doesn’t really match any of that
Wdym?
That means it is 100% perfect for Roblox, because every single frontpage game graphic is even lower than that anyway now
They make these features probably so a popular Social Hangout Game can have texture AI add in instead, probably BrookHaven…
Just learned about this, decided to do a few tests.
First up I tried a tree, nothing realistic, nothing detailed, simple enough. This is what I got:
Now I’m not surprised it didn’t really do well with leaves as leaves aren’t necessarily the most coherent object ever, but I feel like it just sometimes does not know what to do with colors and places them everywhere, causing random patches of green in this case.
Next test was a boulder, simple enough, no complexity there:
Now, overall the texture isn’t horrible, but what seems like good lighting is actually the texture. It just decides to add shadows that just aren’t there? Some areas are brighter than others and some have shadows cast over them even though this is an empty baseplate with nothing that would cast a shadow over the rock, there’s also some textured ambient occlusion for some reason… Although, it did apply a nice little sharp effect at the rock’s edges, which is alright.
Next, a katana. Now, katanas aren’t as simple as large boulders, they have handles, a metal blade, all with different materials. Here’s what I got:
This is… horrendous, to say the least. It adds a red handle texture all over the mesh, from the handle to the blade. We can see very cluttered and messy textures of metal and the red handle all over the place, it doesn’t seem to know where is where on this mesh.
Last, but certainly not least, mountains! Terrain isn’t insanely complex, it’s natural and even randomness feels organic, so it really can’t mess up that much.
Now, alright… alright. Can’t say it’s great, but certainly not horrible. Has some weird red line at the bottom for whatever reason, but overall not the worst. Although I’m not too sure why the snow is denser at the bottom rather than the top, but it is what it is.

To note, I wanted to do a few more tests, specifically with human faces and such, but unfortunately there’s a daily limit on generations so I didn’t get far : (
Overall, the new Mesh Texture AI isn’t the worst AI tool used for game development that I’ve ever seen, but it isn’t good by a long shot. It adds random shadows at times, random colors, and overall isn’t super coherent. Now, this could all be solved with a little refinement, I think if this tool was refined by Roblox a bit more before being released (technically still is beta… but still), it could’ve had much better results.
Two of the largest issues I have with this though that are just honestly unnaceptable as a developer that would potentially use this tool, is texture resolution and lack of PBR.
With the rise of PBR textures in Roblox and simply technology getting more advanced, it just does not make sense that this texture AI doesn’t create normal maps, roughness maps, or even metalness. Heck, even the Material Generator roblox made a while ago has PBR functionality! Now, it wasn’t great, but still better than this. Maybe an option to toggle PBR generation?
Texture resolution, it’s horrible. Not even an exaggeration, I zoom in a tiny bit closer and I can cound individual pixels there are way larger than they need to be. We are in 2024, absolutely no game should have a texture resolution that low, give us at least an option to tune it up.
And with that, I take my leave.
(TL;DR )
Preview:
If what I got was the preview, I would’ve said 10/10 because that egg looked insane! Unfortunately, random white spots and what looks to be lighting got baked into it as well…
Certainly has a lot of progress to be made, but I’m optimistic. I feel like within a year this will be a very useful tool!
I think it’s neat.
I still prefer texturing models myself in Blender but I think it’s a neat feature.
Might give me some ideas and inspiration if I don’t know what to texture onto my models.
I think it’s a cool little tool for conceptualizing or for temporary placeholders.
Might also benefit people who can’t afford commissioning a 3D artist and just need a quick texture for their stuff.
