Roblox Player for Mac is using significantly more CPU

As of about 1-2 weeks ago Roblox Player for Mac has been using 2-3x the CPU it normally does. I’m not sure if this is a memory leak, due to new features that were added, or if it is something to do with my end but ever since this started happening Roblox it taking up ~57% of my CPU when it’s minimized and >80% when it’s open. It makes typing in any other application (especially Discord) very laggy & makes my frames drop significantly in some of the games on the platform.

Are any other programs causing this? Did you check?

Try for a restart(or restart Discord). Because for some reason if any program left open for an extensive time will start to eat more CPU than usual.

Oh wait! Hardware acceleration may cause some application to go slow, you might disable it on Discord.

Own a iMac for Roblox use to. Outta thought i’d contribute to this post.

I receive +80% CPU usage on the Roblox Client:

I receive a very low 14% CPU usage when the client is minimized.

Is this only recently for you as well?

Just to let you know memory leaks are just leftover memory that never gets cleaned up… It won’t use CPU

Open the performance stats while in a game to see what stats are high (maybe take a screenshot). Does it happen if you lower your graphics settings? Since it stops happening when you minimize it I’d assume that it has something to do with graphics possibly but I’m not sure. You can also look in the dev console (F9) and look at the client stats there.

Experiencing the same issue as well, but for me it happens when Roblox is minimized as well. It’s taking 84% of my CPU

This has not always happened, but it’s been happening for the past few months for me.

The processor in your Mac is pretty weak and you only have 4gb of ram, so it’s your machine and likely not a bug, unless it’s been acting slower lately.

True. But this old 2010 thing has supported my gameplay and development throughout the past years even though I have to play on the lowest graphics.

Anywho back on topic.
Yes it’s weak and reasonable for a older model but it seems other users in the topic with newer iMac models experience the same CPU rates.

Just for an update, this still happens on max graphics but if I bump it down to around 5-7 it goes back to how it was before. I assume this happens due to the new shaders in the FiB lighting that was made live not too long ago.

This was occurring on my Windows 10 Machine before I updated the drivers to the latest version.

I’m not sure if Mac has drivers too (never used a Mac before) but if it does, try updating your iGPU’s drivers.
