After Roblox decided to make UGC public and accessible to all, the catalog has been destroyed and is filled with stolen items, rip-offs of originals, and more. When the UGC was application only, this was much better because people made original stuff.

I feel like application would only work if previous well standing ugc creators (such as Empyror, WhoseTrade, Yourius, etc.) Would either accept/deny requests, or have those and similar high profile standing ugc creators “vouch” for applicants, so the UGC market is far better controlled.
The UGC catalog has been a mess for quite a while, though the biggest problem currently are bypassed items and copyrighted items spamming the market, which is just another lawsuit thats going to come in near future.

Unfortunately, Roblox cannot really go back to the way it used to be. It’d be criticized by alot of people since it is pretty much taking their source of revenue away..
They should def have a blacklist of some sorts for UGC though.

It doesn’t mean that everyone has to be removed from the program. New creators should be whitelisted if their items are good. Besides, the people who would criticize would probably be the ones making the catalog a mess.

Yeah but a multi-billion dollar company could probably hire a few people to filter applications.
If roblox can go nuclear on games without any proper explanations (not even having secondary explanation posts), I feel like going nuclear on UGC and going back to application only while removing the various price floors and “spend money for the purpose of spending money because we love it” systems that UGC now revolves around is entirely possible and even partially feasible

Roblox is pretty bad at deciding whos items should stay on the catalog and whos shouldnt. I think a user community moderated UGC catalog could help a lot more than some single employees who have no idea what they are doing (good example was the recent ban wave and deletion of fedoras)
